Thanks! Is recess broken up a few times a day?
Also do you know if CMI plans on having PE? |
| You're welcome! Recess is twice a day in 30 minute blocks. They are currently interviewing for a full-time PE teacher who will start this fall. |
| This is excellent news! Will they have a gym at the new facility? |
| No, PE will take place in the multipurpose room and in the outdoor space (it's huge!). |
Can you go further into this? CMI was recommended for my SN son (language, sensory, and social issues). We didn't get in (lottery can eat a dick), but we were going to try again next year. How have you been disappointed? What do you feel Bridges offers that's better? |
How exciting!! Thrilled that our child got in. |
| This is great! Does this mean they may eventually have some sports too? |
| How challenging is CMI? How are more advanced/kids needing extra help accomodated? |
I was also surprised to read this bc we have been very happy with the SN services for preschool at CMI. |
They do a great job with advanced kids. The classrooms are truly differentiated. My DC is supported and challenged along with the other children in the class who are working ahead. The fact that the classrooms are inclusive and that they have monthly personal goals, ensures that the children are kind and respectful of one another despite learning differences. |
| How about with sensitive kids? |
| I'm surprised no one has brought up that most teachers are teach for America and this creates high turnover. CMI pays below DCPS so it will continue to be high turnover. If you think this will work in MS you're fooling yourself. |
It's been mentioned in other threads, but 3 years in and there has been very little turnover at the school. |
Incorrect, PP. Out of the 18 teachers, only 2are former TFA and they are awesome! Most came through the Center for Inspired Teaching. |
We are not at CMI (we are at ITS). We have friends at CMI and a former resident that we had now teaches at CMI. I can honestly say CMI has great teachers. It's not always about the money. Quality of life and a rewarding job speaks volume in the world of teaching. Even if the teachers only teach at these charters for 3-5 years and then move on to something more lucrative, that's a good 3-5 years to make an impact. You can have a mediocre teacher with 20 years experience and you can have a 3 year new teacher that is very good. |
