Any hesitations about CMI?

The reviews of CMI here seem very enthusiastic. Are there things families do not like about the school or areas where they hope for improvement?

I can honestly say we love almost everything about the school. Look forward to more green space when we move to location, that has been lacking. Otherwise, it's amazing.

No set feeder for high school
Other than that we've been pleased

I also look forward to our DC having PE next year. Music and movement is fun and it is exercise, but I would like for them to learn to play team activities.

For my kid the availability of the sensory room and just playing on the playground has been enough for him.

The only thing I don't like about CMI is the fact that it must implement the common core curriculum and give the many assessments that are required by the DCPCSB. The only way around this is to go private. Also, the math instruction could be better but they are working on it, and you can always supplement as many of my friends with kids in private do anyway. As public schools go, thumbs up all around. You can't do better, in my opinion. If I had to pick another public, I would pick Hearst (nice, diverse small school from what I know at Open House and from friends with kids there), but CMI's small class sizes, arts, language and emphasis on the whole child win out for our family.

I would pick Montessori over CMI. If not Montessori, then I would pick CMI.

I get the feeling parents don't post things that they dislike about their school on DCUM.

Will CMI have PE next year? This was unclear to me

How can they have no PE when the Healthy Schools Act demands it?
Anonymous
No idea, but they currently have no PE

They have 1 hour of outside time (or during bad weather - yoga and movement class). If you look at their performance metrics, they are taking above the amount of movement, it's just not called "PE"

I would say I wish the older kids could focus more on a choice of language. I understand that will be the case in middle school.

Do you think people will stay for middle school if the expansion is approved? I realize it's hard to tell at this point.

Don't quote me, but I believe 95% reported back that they would stay at CMI for MS. This was reported in one of the CFA meetings and in the school newsletter.

I don't understand. They're commuted to two (soon three) classes per grade. Which is fabulous for elementary school. But how would that work for middle school??
