Vote out the FCPS school board

Bravo.

FCPS deciding on a whim when our children will attend school is the point.

Five months ahead of time is not exactly a "whim"...........

And, for those writing Mc about the business aspects.....how many of you are vacationing in VA--and not the outer banks of NC?

If there's a way to get rid of her, so much the better. It would generate more publicity as well, which might remind other alleged civil servants whom they are supposed to be serving.

Thank you OP! Well said!!! I'm so angry right now I feel sick. I HATE THIS SUPERINTENDANT!

Heaven forbid someone do something which improves the education of our kids!

The things you folks chose to get so up in arms about...

They have the waiver for a reason. More than half the districts in the state are granted this waiver. Several surrounding school systems are granted this waiver every year.

Can any of you channel some of this anger toward overcrowded schools and favored students?

Some people just don't get it....

If you have ANY issue you are concerned about, would you like a say in it, or would you like the school board and superintendent to decide for you, with little to no input?

I strongly suspect that if this were put to a vote that you would lose. Most people in Fairfax would prefer to start school before Labor Day.

Sorry, this is a very minor issue, but sure...you have a right to be angry about whatever the hell you want.

It is just sad that THIS is the issue people want to throw an effing hissy fit over.

So why not put it to a vote? They won't because they don't care what parents think. This will be railroaded through. As the previous poster noted, it's about us having a say in SOMETHING. Right now this school board really does not care what parents think.

It's a whim when the calendar for next year was already published and people (and yes, businesses) made plans based on that. It's a whim when extending next year by a week does absolutely nothing to make up for lost time this year. It's NOT a whim when you realize that many of the ridiculous cancellations for "cold" this year were likely done with the intent of qualifying for this waiver. That manipulation is fueling much of this outrage.

And many, many people vacation in Virginia. Or pay for camps, or go to the movies, or laser tag or water parks or outlet malls...

This has been high on the "want" list for FCPS for years and years. If you're just hearing about it now, you must be new or not paying attention.

This is not the first I've heard about it, but I thought chances were unlikely given how many cancellations were required. The way they are going about forcing the issue is disgusting.

Everyone knows FCPS has wanted early start dates for year.

**It is how they have manipulated the process that has people angry.**

Why would Richmond look unfavorably on a waiver for FFX when Loudon already has a waiver?
