Talk me into...or out of buying a trampoline

My DD broke her arm doing a cartwheel in the family room. Arm needed surgery.

My DD got a broken ankle during a bus fire drill. When the kid behind her jumped out of the bus he landed on her leg/ankle. That was fun. Just goes to show things can happen anywhere and you cant go through life avoiding the inevitable. You may as well then live in a bubble!!

Interesting. Did you ask them about it?

Spouse is a pediatrician. He would never allow us to have one. Causes a tremendous amount of broken bones. He would also not allow our kids to ever have a pogo stick.

My DD's orthopedist said monkey bars and trampolines keep her in business.

They're clearly a terrible idea and a high-risk item.

We also have one and my kids love it. We pretty closely supervise them while they're on it. No more than 2 kids at a time and they must be same-sized.

I lot of families in my neighborhood (Del Ray Alexandria) have them. Supervise appropriately and it's no more risky than bike riding etc. They're so fun and great for burning off energy - you know yourself and your kids and if you can all make sure its used in a safe way

We have a top-quality one as far as safety ratings go and we only allow one child at a time. I am not embarrassed to yell out in the yard if I see more than two inside the net. Most accidents are caused by: lack of a net, uncovered springs, and more than one person inside the bouncy area. How those trampoline recreation facilities manage to stay in business is beyond me. I have seen toddlers walk straight across trampolines while a much larger kid was doing a back hand spring.

Everyone here is arguing about the relative safety of a trampoline. You need to focus on the liability. Unless you never ever allow anyone but your children on there, then you do need to talk to your insurer. It they won't cover trampoline accident you could end up in a real mess...

We've had one for over 15 years (more than one). Everyone loves it. No broken bones.

No, for that I'd need to triple my commute. Then I'd really get the feel.

Hey, I live in Manassas and I'm just being honest.

wow how ridiculous is that. Do you have bikes/trikes for the kids? Skates? Skateboards? because kids can get hurt just as easily with those as with a trampoline. Life must be wonderful being married to a pediatrician.....NOT

We have had one since our kids where little. Our 18yo still uses it. We also have a zipline, a treehouse, a halfpipe, a slackline and a pool with a diving board.

When I was a kid one of my friends tore open his scrotum on the springs. He had one testicle removed. Have not considered getting one for my kids.

The PP wins with that horrid injury. My broken elbow seems like a minor injury compared to losing a scrotum.
