I did the percentages and it was much harder to get in for Pk3 even though there were more spaces because there were a lot more applicants.

Where did you pick? We're trying to decide whether to put in an application for pk3 and 1st in the upcoming lottery or stick with our current school (where we have sibling preference for the PS3). I figure that if we apply elsewhere our chances of getting are actually reasonable for first as there are so few less applicants.

Apply for the 1st grader. If you're not totally happy where you are, why not? Your PS3 would then go to the top of the waitlist for wherever the 1st grader gets in.

We're fairly happy where we are. Who knows if we would be more happy with a different school. It can be disruptive to switch. Basically I want to be certain (or almost) that we'd take the move if we got in and perhaps it's a case of "better the devil you know". Also, it might be hard, for example to have my oldest start 1st grade at, say, Mundo Verde without any Spanish.

PP again, also if we apply to new schools this year and get offered a spot somewhere else (that we've ranked higher than our current school for our rising-PS3 kid) does that mean that we won't get a spot for the PS3 at the current school if we decide not to take the offered spot at the new school? I can't work out how it works for siblings and we're leaning toward staying put, but might consider jumping for a couple of other long-shot possibilities (but don't want to apply if it would mean that staying at current school and having both kids there together would be ruled out immediately).

I think that is right, but it's worth a call to My School DC to find out for sure. If you do call them, could you check back here and let us know what they say?

We were in the low 60s in the lottery and never got a call, so below that.

We were #21 and never got a call. And someone said they went through at least 20, so my guess is...20.

Crap...or maybe we were #31! So some where between 20 and 30 I'd guess.
