My child's teacher using drugs

I'd be most concerned that the teacher was stupid enough to post that shit on social media.

Agreed. Which is why I'm pretty sure OP is a troll.

OP her - thanks for all the input. I'll be contacting the school on Monday.

Teacher has been teaching for a couple years, early 30s. So really old enough to know better. We do not live in a state where marijuana is decriminalized or used medicinally. I looked it up too, since it is still federally illegal, employees can still be fired for usage even if they have a prescription.

I have a 5 yr old in K, like OP. drinking wine is legal in DC. if my kid's teacher smelled of alcohol at drop off I would call the Principal

I agree with others that the combination of smell of MJ in the morning on working days and the posting on social media seems to suggest this teacher has poor judgment

It is not legal - it is decriminalized which is different.

I wouldn't want my child in her keeping. Report her.

I would report the teacher. However be prepared for the teacher to be fired, and then replaced with a long-term sub. It would be hard to find a qualified, experienced special ed teacher in the middle of the school year.

Yep. Is she a good teacher?

I really want to be anonymous about it. Or should I tell other parents? I'm friends with the PTA president.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but....It bothers me immensely that the teacher is immature and dumb enough to post about this on social media (clearly accessible to those outside her 'circle') and to come to work smelling of pot (I hear what the PP's are saying but there are ways to ensure you get rid of the smell). I'd be talking to the principal regardless of what grade or class the teacher taught. But I am particularly concerned that the teacher is working with the most vulnerable population (SN, 5 and under) and that s/he's in a leadership position. Awareness and alertness need to be tripled, in my opinion, and judgment needs to be crystal clear as well as leadership. Posting about potentially illegal activity (assuming that this isn't in a state where pot's legal) and literally wearing that to work isn't exactly modeling behavior or exhibiting judgment.....

You're spot on, particularly your point about the teacher dealing with the most vulnerable population.

Schools don't do random drug testing.

Recently received a forwarded link from another parent of the teacher having posted pictures of marijuana and paraphernalia on her social media. I am so uncomfortable with this. Considering reporting her. I want to do it anonymously but also want my concerns taken seriously.

You better make sure you have all of your facts before you embarrass yourself. MJ is used medicinally for many different reasons - to help chemo symptoms, for people who have MS, Parkinsons etc. Just be careful OP.

UM I'm OP. The use of party emoji and her friends comments do not make it seem like she has HIV or cataracts. She also posted pictures of our kids on her social media at a school trip without consent. I am preparing the complaint.

Thank you, OP. That is the right thing to do. Her principal may need facts to go forward. Complaints from parents help.

WTH? I've been teaching special education for 15 years. I don't smoke pot and never have. I've got tons of friend who teach special education as well who do not smoke pot. Shoot...I don't actually know anyone at all who smokes pot. LOL!

The teacher is an idiot for posting that stuff on a public page that parents have access to. If parents can find it, kids can too and they really don't need to be knowing that their teacher smokes pot in her free time. I drink but I would NEVER post a picture of myself drinking on a social media site.

However, I do know several professionals who smoke on their off time and are still very successful in their career and highly regarded. I don't partake myself, but depending on the situation, I wouldn't be overly bothered by it either.

The teacher in question might "smoke on his off time" but the parent is smelling it on the teacher's clothes AT SCHOOL. So either the teacher is smoking before school -- great way to be attentive and ready for the day! -- or is so dumb that keeping clothes clean isn't on his or her radar, or is so used to the smell of pot that he or she doesn't even notice it any more. Combine that with being stupid enough to think it's fine to post about it on social media and the teacher sounds like the wrong person to have in charge of any kids, much less special needs kids who require teachers who are especially alert and attentive.

OP, have you reported this yet? Don't hesitate. You have a special needs kindergartener. Your child shouldn't be taught by someone who is this dumb, careless, self-absorbed and, yes, unconcerned about his or her career as well.
