it "sounds" masculine to me, though i don't think i've met a male harper.
baseball fan? |
I don't understand why anyone would give a child this name, but I dislike occupational names anyway. Does anyone actually still play the harp anymore? |
Yes. Look on Youtube. |
So there is still time to pick another name. People will see it on a class list in elementary school and think he is a girl. My sister wanted to do a girl's birthday party for her kindergartner because she didn't want to invite the whole class. She just sent invitations to the girls. Most of the girls in the class came along with Harper, the only boy at the party. |
You think this is a reason not to pick Harper? |
CATASTROPHE! No, wait, actually not a catastrophe. |
Of course it isn't a catastrophe, just an indicator of things to come. As Harper becomes exclusively a girl's name a boy with the name will have a harder time throughout his life. When he sends in a resume people will think he is a girl, etc. Why name your kid something that makes it slightly more difficult in life. |
Tell that to all the Pats, Chrises, Alexes and Saschas you know. They seem to be making it work. |
LOL - a person who plays the harp is a "harpist," not a "harper." |
DC has in class at school a boy named Sloan and a girl named Avalon. Anything goes. |
| Don't like this name at all. I think of it as a "girl" name and it also makes me think of someone who is always harping on and on about things. A harper aka a nag. |

Paul Simon's son is named Harper.
Harry Potter producer David Heyman's son is named Harper. Harper Carter (born 1939), American entrepreneur Harper Goff (1911–1993), American artist, musician, and actor Harper LeBel (born 1963), American footballer (American football) Harper Simon (born 1972), American singer-songwriter Harper Williams (born 1971), American basketball player |
And so...? |
| I think it's unisex. |
| Just name him Harpo. |
