Humble brag - if it would not have been so pathetic it would have been hilarious. |
...and that "problem" was exemplary of the types of threads that inspired the OP to start this one. |
Okay, I'm a 'poor' but it doesn't mean I don't understand why others who are financially well off ask for advice, even if the question is out of my economic 'level.' |
it could be, depnding on your family dynamic. I actually like my ILs, but they currently have my BIL living there with his children. I wish I COULD afford a hotel to escape that nonsense, but after the insane cost of just getting there, we can't afford another couple thousand for hotel and car rental. My husband refuses to go for less than a week, and he isn't as annoyed by the situation as I am. But me not coming makes me look like a bitch, so I go and I suffer. This year, I'm off the hook because we're having a baby, but he's going and taking our older daughter. Next time, if BIL is still there, we've been invited to stay at his cousin's place. |
Seriously now, what advice should be given? I don't fly much, myself, but I would expect to be considerably less comfortable in Economy than in Business Class. If you can't or don't want to afford Business Class, what practical advice can anyone offer? |
Ask your ILs to visit you. |
How much more is economy plus or business class? That's the issue, not how much it is for economy. |
Well now again, if moving closer to work, or working closer to home, are not options, what advice do you expect posters, rich or poor, to offer you to manage your quality of life issues? |
For poor people, they have to suck it up and keep working. That mother did not. In other words, she has a real life question with no clear answer. If you're poor, isn't the answer usually very clear? |
HAHA. You found it. Half these people are making it up. |
Seriously? That's just inconsiderate. |
It's no big secret your legs are going to get cramped. You are aware of that before purchasing the ticket. Don't expect the person in front of you to care because they paid just as much as you for their seat. What advice do you want for your crunched knees? Oh that's right, you just want others to suffer for your comfort. Take it up with the airlines. |
I wasn't the one complaining about knee space, actually. Another extra couple hundred just isn't in our budget was my point. Airlines are cramming as many people into a small space as they can and Nicole and dime you on everything these days. So, 10 years ago, $600 would have gotten our whole family there in slightly more spacious seats and no charge for bags or snacks. It's a totally different ball game these days and people's incomes haven't increased to make any of it worth it. We can't vacation otherwise because of this ![]() |

It's complicated. They do try to come once a year, but BIL and his kids can't make it (he can barely afford to feed them) and none of the other family would come either (aunts, uncles, cousins). We have to suck it up and spend any extra money of ours for that reason. |
