Is there a kind of "DCUM" for poor people?

I thank goodness for the rich people - they make it possible for DD to go on all the field trips her public school has.

They also contribute to a system that helps them get richer while the wages of every day people remain stagnant.

But.....all we have to do is pull ourselves up by our bootstraps!! Or so they tell us.

If YOU want to feel poor, go on Urban Baby. They all seem to be wives of hedge fund guys who make 750k +.

other than the money and finance board and the real estate board, why does the SES of posters make a difference?

Just curious.

Because if I want a stroller recommendation or restaurant recommendation, or travel tips, it matters. If I complain about visiting the inlaws and I'm told to get a hotel, I can't afford it. If I have questions about anything and am told to hire a professional, I can't because I have 2 kids and am in grad school. I am very often given expensive advice around here. (Np)

Lol you are so right about the "outsource it" advice. If I could afford to outsource everything I probably wouldn't be asking for advice, now would I!?

I feel you, because we are the similar. We have to pay a lot just to GET to my IL's, since they live halfway across the country and airline fares have at least tripled in the 10 years we have been married. We don't have tons and tons of airline miles to utilize, so it is OOP. And it's not like we have a ton in savings. Currently, we're paying our bills and feeding ourselves and that is about it. Can't get a new car, can't put anything into savings...and just had to have emergency dental work that even WITH insurance is likely to keep us several thousands in the hole.

I don't find these questions so hard when you give a price range. If you just give your budget, most will stick with it except for the true assholes.

Like the post about reclining airline seats where people posted that if someone crunched your knees, it was your fault for not buying a seat in Economy Plus or Business Class.

I posted something similar. Shrug. Economy is a cattle car. If that's what you can afford, great.

But if you don't like your ILs and you can't afford a hotel (or can but then the visit would be 3 days instead of 7) then isn't that a win-win situation?

Or my favorites: "Why not move closer to work?" or "Why not find a job closer to home?"

For a certain segment of forum posters, both great jobs and affordable housing seem to grow on trees.

For the mother trying to decide if she should keep her part-time $100k job or stay home, I think either question is fair game.
