Opinions on this Italian name

No offense, but I do not like either.

And I do love Italian names a lot.

I met an elementary-school-aged Gianluca this summer. Nobody had any problems pronouncing his name.

I am thinking that with this up in coming generation it won't be a big deal though?? I also agree Gianluca seems hard to pronounce but its really not...John-Luca. I worry Corrado will get shortened to Cory which I really don't care for. Keep the suggestions coming!

I know two Gianlucas. One is a seven-year-old boy who goes by Luca, and so far as I can tell, he has had no problems with his name. It's actually a really easy name for people to pronounce, and Luca is even easier.

OP - Im the one who suggested Juri or Luca. DH is italian, has family in Italy, and I could search and search thru their FB friends and nobody uses these old fashioned names. I am wondering if they are considered sort of like old fashioned and southern italian trashy, not sure (DH's family isn't southern or northern really). It would be strange there, so why do it here? Do your kid a favor - if you're going to go the italian name route, search through young italian people's facebook pages and look at their names to get some ideas. No Corrado etc. No no no.

Since your older children have Americanized names I'd go with something similar. Although I do think Luca, Dominic, Mateo would work.

Why does OP have to name her children names that people are using (italian or not?)....but as someone who lived In Italy from 06-09 I can tell you there are still tons of Vinces and Carmellas/Carmellos.

Debating on name for DC 3 (boy) between Gianluca or Corrado...also open to other suggestions!!

I have a few men named Luca in my family and a Gianluca. I LOVE both and have a soft soft for the Gianluca. I come from a big Italian family and my children have Italian first names, and their dad's waspy last name

I don't love Corrado, but I think that's because I for some reason associate it with the Sopranos. Which is a stupid reason and it drives me nuts when people associate Italian names with whatever mob movie they know it from.

Not gonna lie, though, I'm a huge Star Trek fan and would probably go with Gianluca Luca is a great nickname.

lol my first thought too!

Also, another suggestion (I just posted above) I have a cousin named Carmen with a brother Vincenzo/ Vincent. They work well together and is a "C" name if you want that. Its kind of close to Carmella though.

My other suggestion is Camillo (beloved uncle) but that's really close.

You sound horrible and dull. (Look on Facebook for names? Ugh). If I were OP, I'd laugh at your comment and take it as an endorsement of the names she likes, for the very fact you don't like them.

The "old fashioned" names are very popular with non-Jersey-Shore Italians (which it seems your husband and fb friends are, my family is from Florence and we use old-fashioned names). My cousins and nephews and nieces are currently names things like Vincent, Allesandra, Dominic, Danielle, Raffaele, Nico, Francesca. Gorgeous names.

The thing that kinda sucks about italian names is everyone associates them with what mob movies/shows they know. So Corrado is now apparently ruined too. (I have watched 10-20 episodes of Sopranos over my lifetime and don't remember that character though?)

Gianluca

What about
Arturo?
Enzo?
I like names with family connection too

Couldn't the same thing be said for all the kids now named Matilda, Beatrice, etc. here?
