It is one of those places where you think to yourself eh it was ok, not worht the drive or the $$$ but when asked you will rave about it because you don't want ot look like a fool for driving there andd spending that much $$ that you can.
It jumped the shark long long ago. |
It's too bad you didn't enjoy it. That wasn't our experience at all. |
| I think Komi is better and City Zen is as good, and I agree it's way too precious not to mention inconvenient. Not sure if it jumped the shark or just got passed by. |
| I thought it was overrated. That may be because there was a local celeb sitting next to us who clearly got preferential treatment. I was especially sad not to get the much-raved-about truffled popcorn. |
I enjoy City Zen - been several times - but it's not quite the same. Haven't been to Komi. |
That's because you didn't eat in the kitchen. That's the place to be! What an experience! |

That's because you didn't eat in the kitchen. That's the place to be! What an experience! Actually, I'm one of the underwhelmed PP's above and that's what we did. Fun to do once, but that was enough. YMMV! |
|
You age in the kitchen and didn't like it????? Was it when they announced you and swung the incense?
|
Our food at Komi was extraordinary overpriced Mediterranean dishes. Nothing special about Komi at all! City Zen was very good, but I agree with the other posters that say Inn at Little Washington is also a special dining experience. I love the food there too, but can see that some will say the food isn't that special. I just think the food tastes consistently excellent. |
|
To each his own, clearly. I found the incense theatrics at the Inn way over the top, but would go back to Komi tomorrow for the goat.
Guessing we're not helping the OP here. |
I agree with you regarding Komi. Way overpriced and very meh. I would never go back to Komi. City Zen was excellent. |
+1 Don't know if I will ever go back but I'm glad we did it (for our 5th anniversary). |
|
We're going soon for a friend's 50th so I'm very interested in trying it after hearing about it for all these years.
Honestly, I really don't think ANY of these restaurants are worth the $$ - from French Laundry to Komi to the Inn. Sure they have great food, but certainly not worth the high price tags. I had the opportunity to go to Noma in Copenhagen recently and it was close to 1,000.00 bucks for 2 of us - and only 1 of us had the wine pairings. Was it an extraordinary experience that I'll never forget? Yes. Was it worth a grand for 2 people - no freaking way! I wasn't the one who paid otherwise I never would have gone! |
We loved it. But yes, twice as much as the quotes here. |
I agree about the cost but I think it's kind of hokey to me to jizz about not so great food -- feels provincially american. If you want to go into the world of that movie Ice Storm then go try it. |
