This baffles me. I am in Aerospace and making 200k is director level which means years of working in the field.

How exactly would I break into 200k job in say IT. I have technical background but in aerospace ; would I retrain a masters in comp sci from gmu or something? And what company and job us this range? Senior consultant at Booz?
I think knowing how to navigate career comes from growing up other folks in these fields. Asking for such clear advice when you reveal some vulnerability you only do with old friends and family. But for us from rural parts of country, our folks are amazed when we make over 50k and our friends from home really can't relate to the job market and salary here compared to small rural cities.

hahahahahahaha! You'd have to be a lot higher than senior consultant at Booz to make that kind of salary.

well, PP was saying this was easy? so were do I look for work after getting masters? like many engineers, much better at technical subjects than career planning. i just like working on the problems, but for the family i see the importance of expanding my career returns.

Me, private banker. 200k is about 4-5 yrs in.

Journalist to which you are referring makes about $180K. Not quite 200, as I said. But yes.

He should write a book about the dumbing down of America from a journalist's view. The take-over of our information sources by the random internet crap out there is so frightening to me.
On second thought, maybe make it a dystopian thriller.

DH is a physician and I'm an attorney in Fed Gov.

We never see each other but we make good money...

My husband makes less than $200.

Curious where you are - Sr Mgr/director at Big 4 or tax director in industry?

And this is why I'm happy with our measly HHI of 150. We rarely work more than 40 hours a week and almost never on weekends (maybe 1x/year).

We both make more than 200K. Not always a tradeoff to time. We have plenty of time at home.

Both of us put in more than 40 but still have plenty of time to be with the kid and do the things we want to do. Balance is what you make of it.

I'll mention it to him. Though he's still waiting for me to write the next Harry Potter series, so we can retire.

My husband and I both work full time and make less than 200k combined. And we both have graduate degrees. I guess we went into the wrong fields...

We've accepted one or both of us may have to retrain and enter a new high paying field to maintain our standard of living. Any of you out there make $200K or more? If so, what do you do for a living?

Exactly! Silicon Valley Entrepreneurs are making bank, so get a certificate in that. Or is it an Exec MBA? Or was it Devry? If I could just remember, I would be entrepreneuring.
