I'm an IT project manager making $130k. Are you saying I would make $200k if I get a top security clearance?

Not any more. They have changed how contracts are handled.

If you had a TS with full poly you would be up there.

No. We're "scraping by" on $120K and SAHM. Oh, please, do you honestly measure yourself by #s like these?

Get over yourself.

Doesnt' just about everyone on this particular board make at a minimum $200K?

DH is well over this amount, and I am well under as I work PT....and FWIW, we feel very middle-class.

$200K EACH, HHI $400K or more? I don't think that is the majority of DCUM posters. $200K or more combined, yes, that is very common on DCUM.

I would be SO happy if we made $200K COMBINED. As it is, I only make $60K and DH makes about $90K before taxes.

We both just had to cease contributions to our retirment accounts to be able to afford daycare costs for our new baby. I feel so sad an depressed about that.

I make $220 as a CPA. But that is a lot higher than a starting salary in the field.

My husband makes less than $200.

OP didn't say anything about measuring herself. She said she wants to maintain her current standard of living. Don't we all want at least that? Would you be fine with having to uproot from someplace you love and relocate to someplace you don't love, move your kids from a school where they are thriving, etc. because your HHI is suddenly $70K? If you would have a problem with that I guess you just need to get over yourself.

This baffles me. I am in Aerospace and making 200k is director level which means years of working in the field.

How exactly would I break into 200k job in say IT. I have technical background but in aerospace ; would I retrain a masters in comp sci from gmu or something? And what company and job us this range? Senior consultant at Booz?
I think knowing how to navigate career comes from growing up other folks in these fields. Asking for such clear advice when you reveal some vulnerability you only do with old friends and family. But for us from rural parts of country, our folks are amazed when we make over 50k and our friends from home really can't relate to the job market and salary here compared to small rural cities.

hahahahahahaha! You'd have to be a lot higher than senior consultant at Booz to make that kind of salary.
