If I am #30 on SACC wait list, do I have a chance of getting in for Sept?

They just tell you your child's number as if you didn't have sibling preference and then say that you are on the sibling list as well. The last time I called they told me they don't have "numbers" for the sibling list but that they do keep it in order from when you called to register. Which actually means they MUST have some sort of number but won't give it out. My second child is #62 for BS care and on the sibling preference list. Called 8am the day registration opened. She most likely will not get a spot for September even with the sibling preference. So I'll have one in BS SACC at base school and one not. It is just nuts. Having to drop a K off at another schools SACC program and then have that child have to take a bus to base school from there is a bit much for a 5 year old to start their day. Plus having to drop my older child off at our main school SACC program and an infant off at another care program. Its very hard for working parents who can't afford a nanny and don't have space for an au pair!

Well, you could always just use the same daycare for all 3 children and choose a daycare that will transport the older 2 back and forth to school

Like other elementary schools, our school has a lot of PTA sponsored after school activities that I would like my future kindergartener to participate in. All the centers informed me that they do not do a second pick up so my child will most likely not be able to do the school activities.

We went from mid-70's back in July 2013 to #30 in April 2014. Do I have any shot of getting off this list by September?

I don't know the exact timeframe, but do know that the SACC office sends out an inquiry to all those on the wait list (and maybe those currently enrolled) so that they can update their numbers for the coming year. I suspect, but you should call the office to confirm, the movement you saw that put you from the 70's to #30 was as a result of this inquiry which took into account the 6th graders leaving and other families that were waiting that have since found other options/moved. Good luck!

This does not exist in most communities but that would be nice! There is not one in home care that will take an infant and drop kids off and pick them up from school anywhere around our school. If someone would open one I'm sure they would be full in a matter of hours in our area.

That's the advantage of the center based after care. There are several centers that do that. It's part of the appeal. One drop off and one pick up.

In home daycares sometimes also offer this, but often you have to be OK with your kid riding the school bus to and from the home daycare. So your daycare provider has to live in boundary for your school. But I don't think it's that unusual. And older kids may not really enjoy it very much.

Fnd a daycare center in schools boundary zone. The school bus picks them up from the daycare center and drops them off at the daycare center. It is really common. Where do you live.

It may not be exactly where you need or want it, but it's there. A quick Google found lots of places.

I would also ask at the school's front desk, they often have lists. Ask a community listserv or Facebook page. Ask every working parent you know.

Thanks for the sites! Gives me some other options to look into for the middle child. Unfortunately none of those would fit the full day infant care plus dropping kids before and after school all in one place. None are in our boundary but two of them have after care programs that I think a bus will take them to from our school. Very helpful hopefully for others as well.

We are #19 on the aftercare list and have stalled. We started at 42. We got on the wait list last year on the morning sign up was opened. DC starts kindergarten this fall and we've decided to get a nanny. We are across the street from school so it seems silly to bus out to a center. Younger sibling is in a great daycare that does not service our school and we dont want to move DC#2. Hoping to get into SACC by January. Luckily, we have several nanny options available.

I'm more nervous about figuring out summers.

Summer SACC... Even if you don't get into school year SACC, I believe you can still sign up for the summer program (if you qualify for SACC). Generally the wait list for Summer SACC is much, much shorter. Seven weeks of the summer, and you can choose as many or as few of the 7 weeks as you want. Not all schools have Summer SACC, since they consolidate locations over the summer. Hours are generally 7:15-6:15. Usually they plan one fun field trip for each week. Check the SACC website for more info.

If only it was that easy. Unfortunately, there is no such service for our elementary school with a center for the younger one AND pick up service for the older child in elementary school.

How did you find a part time nanny?

Our former nanny is now a teacher's aide so she has the perfect schedule to help us out for a bit. We also have a few h.s. babysitters who have expressed interest. I will work from home on Mondays to cover early release. Everyone lined up knows this is temporary and are ok with that.

You don't need a place that will pick up at the elementary school. The Fairfax school bus will pick up and drop off your child at the daycare, if it is within the school's boundaries. What elementary school is this?

What school does this that FCPS busses will drop off at a daycare? Never heard of it around us.
