If I am #30 on SACC wait list, do I have a chance of getting in for Sept?

After care is stressing me out. I have a few centers that are ok but not great. Like other elementary schools, our school has a lot of PTA sponsored after school activities that I would like my future kindergartener to participate in. All the centers informed me that they do not do a second pick up so my child will most likely not be able to do the school activities.

We went from mid-70's back in July 2013 to #30 in April 2014. Do I have any shot of getting off this list by September?

Hard to say. We were in a similar position and did not get in. Son ended up in Catholic school with guaranteed extended care, as a result.

NO, and it sucks. We are pissed about this wait list issue. There are no kindergartners in most SACC programs.

I'd say you have a chance. Call the admin office weekly for an update on your standing. End of June will have a ton of movement bc of 6th graders.

OP here. I am hoping I have misinformation but the person I spoke to most recently said my #30 includes 6th graders who won't be returning. I went from 75 in July 2013 to ~50 in January 2014 to 30 in April 2014.

I feel like I have to put a deposit down at one of these centers that I am not crazy about.

They are not bad. I am just not crazy about them. There is KinderCare, a tae kwon do place and a church preschool that are all ok.

We have twins and were around #20/21 on the waitlist and got in that fall. I think you should consider alternate options adn wait it out. Tae Kwan Do is a good suggestions. Also see if a SAHM in your neighborhood wants to earn some extra $.

My child is already a little tired of SACC going into 4th grade. I wouldn't worry about not getting into SACC for one year or part of a year. We've gone back and forth on whether to get a nanny for next year or send him back to karate aftercare. When he got into SACC, we were able to give the karate studio 1 month's notice and withhold starting SACC for a month as well so that there was no overlap in payments.

This is not a new issue. It was the same when my now 9th and 11th graders were in K. I don't know why people think they have a chance and don't plan accordingly.

I finally thought we would save money once public school started but now we have to pay for after school care uhhhhhgghhhh

Show up at dismissal at whatever school you're considering and see who picks up there. Some front offices will tell you, but others for some reason won't.

SACC wait lists are DRASTICALLY different in every school that has it. Mclean schools, Vienna typically have several year wait lists. Some others in FCPS do as well. But there are schools that everyone on the wait list gets in. You should just post your school name so others who go there can answer you better. BUT given your response in 11:29 I would caution on the safe side and pay the deposits on an alternative after school place so you have care somewhere. If by chance you get into SACC then you suck up the 20-50 registration fee at the other place. All of the alternative aftercare places in McLean now already have wait lists.

12:41 Chill. You'll have to pay for summer care as well if you work. You only get a discount on the actual school day during the school year. Many moms several years ago fought to get full day K in all the FCPS schools so at least you can be thankful you don't have to pay for after-kindergarten care anymore and then also find another aftercare facility for afterschool.
