German and French Aftercare

Are there other examples of DPR-hosted and/or parents-initiated aftercare programs?

Also, jeez...you must not be German. It's not a motherland, it's the Vaterland.

Stimmt. Meine Frau kommt aus Deutschland.

OP here. I just toured the Columbia Heights community center and it was just short of amazing with respect to availability of space- large indoor classrooms for multiple use and huge outdoor playground. I plan to reach out to the manager very soon and see what's possible. Just because of the location very close to CH metro and easy access to Rock Creek park for WofPers, I think this is most centrally located. Of course I may get shot down and it may turn out the interest is concentrated Westward. I'd at least like to get the information. Would love to hear about Turtle Park and wherever else as well.

If we are interested, should we sign up for that yahoo group that someone posted in another link?

I'm not sure about the the other link and what that refers to. Was someone else starting an interest group for this already?

This is what I was referring to (I didn't start it but saw it on another recent thread):

"Should we make a yahoo group for actual discussion outside of dcum to maybe hash out logistics like when/where for possible meet ups?

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/francophilekids/info"

Oh but it was just specific to French, not German...

Right, that was for a Francophile playgroup. This is for a Teutophile-Francophile DPR-hosted after-care program.
OP, I will join any yahoo or Google group you start!

OP here. Which is better- google group or yahoo? I'd prefer google, but if the yahoo interfacing is better/easier, I'll try to start that.

I prefer google too.

Downtown location so parents can commute home (wherever) with kids.

OP here. Unfortunately my computer illiteracy is in full affect and I can't create the google group. Is someone more savvy than me and would be interested in creating one? We could have the working title "Language Immersion DC" until something better comes along.

OP here. I just looked at the DC Map and when you type "DC Map" into a search engine the push pin with the letter "A" pops up to smack dab in the middle of DC. Guess where it landed, just a little south to Columbia Heights. Florida Ave. gives you NW-NE accessibility, and 16th Street gives you WofP - EofP accessibility. 14th Street all the way down puts you into the heart of downtown as well. I really think CH is ideal. Of course, I'm biased, but I'm being objective in my analysis. Regarding "downtown" what exactly did you have in mind? Also, I'm sure a lot of people will not work downtown, though some will. I wonder how a downtown location will really serve a lot of potentially interested families.

Here it is!
I can transfer ownership of the group to you, OP, if you'd like!

I know this thread is a little old but as a half french woman, married to a German who lives in CH and are expecting, I hope this takes off and that we can join in the fun when DC is old enough!
