I am wonder how a parent would determine 5 or 6 years ahead? I think MAP-R ends with 8th grade. Were they taking HS Geometry as a 4th grader? Is that Lexile level? My child lost three points total on the HGC test.. I don't know what her IQ is. She is a regular kid who does kid things like sports and piano. It is not like you need to be a composer or have designed a new computer ap to get in. |
Here: http://www.nwea.org/sites/www.nwea.org/files/resources/2011_Normative_Data_Overview.pdf This is not the full report, but shows scores through 11th grade. In addition DC was a CTY - math and verbal qualifier. That test is an above grade level test. Last year DC took a language course through CTY and it used a college level text book. Likewise, my child is a regular kid - plays soccer, swims, has friends. These are just a few examples of how I know DC is more than just a few years ahead. It is my opinion that DC is right in the middle of the pack at the HGC. Lots of Ps and Is |
LOL. You have an educational consultant for HGC? |
No it was for learning disabilities. They do IQ testing as part of a general battery of tests, and the ed consultant was helping with accommodations. Although clearly I heard wrong or she told me wrong about IQ distribution in the population. |
I am not sure whether I could say exactly how far ahead my child is in terms of capability. His Map-R score in 6th grade puts him in the 99th percentile for 8th graders and 95th percentile for 11th graders and is above the median score for 11th grade. I feel comfortable saying he is a couple of years ahead in terms of capability but he does not know as much as a typical high school student and so he is not ahead in that sense. The lexile score corresponding to his MAP-R score is in the college range but I don't think he could really understand a college level biology textbook for example unless he had the prerequisite knowledge he would have picked up in high school. BUT the MAP-R score tells me he is capable of working a couple of grade levels ahead of sixth grade very easily. |
