What are you giving up for Lent?

Arizona...oh wait, you're supposed to give up something that you like, so that won't work.

is grains, sugar, dairy and alcohol too much?

I am sick and addicted.

I also give up DCUM. Parts of DCUM are good and have been helpful, but more often than not I'm disappointed by the toxicity. Giving it up is actually a good thing.

Giving up: sugar and DCUM -- plan to keep a gratitude journal in the time I'd normally spend on DCUM. I've given each of these up before and found that after 5 days I didn't give it a thought. Hope that I can make the combo work . . . and maybe not come back to DCUM at all.

Wow, sugar and grains is enough to put most people in withdrawal mode! Good luck!

Grains.

Keeping the sugar and the chocolate and wine.

I'm definitley doing sugar and complaining.
Considering adding meat, alcohol, nagging and Facebook.

I don't really understand this. Does this mean you go back to complaining and nagging after Lent?

PP, the short answer (with no theology) is, after 40 days of focused effort not to complain or nag, it will come more naturally to the PP to complain and nag less. I think nobody answered your question so far because the answer seemed pretty obvious...?

I gave up Catholicism for lent about 20 years ago. It worked out so well, I decided to make it permanent. One of the best decisions of my life!

Hating Catholics is out, hating Muslims is in.

PP here, ha, no, it wasn't obvious to me. Thanks for the thoughtful response. Most folks I know who give up something for Lent (chocolate, wine, etc.) then binge on it once Lent is over. Hence my confusion.

No, this is what I'm doing too. Back on the Whole30 or 40 diet.

You could do one each week. You can't eat meat on Fridays and you're fasting on Ash Wed and Good Friday so keep that in mind. Some years, I'll give up 3 things just on weekends (like chocolate, coffee, and cheese) and then only 1 thing during the week (like just the chocolate).

You can go all out on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Saturday before Easter Sunday. Totally splurging on Easter Sunday feels 10x better after sacrificing for the past 3 days.
