I even spoke to the meter maid who gave me a ticket, trying to show her it wasn't a handicapped spot (she played dumb). I went to the courthouse, tried to fight it and I STILL LOST!!!!!

It was unreal. I learned my lesson- just shut up and pay the damn ticket. It's more like a tax for driving into DC than a ticket since most of the tickets are bogus.

I pretty much refuse to drive into DC anymore now, so DC is losing $$$ from me (since I was shopping and eating in Georgetown when the bogus ticket occurred).

You had documented proof that the car was parked legally, and you went to the courthouse and fought it, and yet you still lost?

Maybe the car wasn't parked legally?"

In which case, perhaps the people in DC are not very unhappy that somebody who parks illegally no longer comes to DC?

Excuse me?! I parked in Georgetown, paid my meter and came back to a handicapped ticket with towing requested. I WAS NOT IN A HANDICAPPED SPACE. The meter maid was a complete idiot and I saw her ticket another car as well. I am not a jerk who parks in handicapped spaces.

She want an idiot, just another corrupt employee. They have quotas to meet, and she was probably behind. Sorry.

The cameras are great. Read a little while back that DC is installing more cameras. These cameras will allow for ticketing for aggressive drive and other infractions, not just speeding or red light running.

I wish they would ticket all those people blocking the box and double parking. It would sure help out the law abiding citizens.

I'm not a speeder but DC makes it HARD to go the speed limit. It's constantly changing and always too low (25mph!? Why?!?). It's all a scam to get you to pay.

It's actually your obligation as a driver to look out for the signs that tell you what the speed limit is. (As well as to drive at that speed limit, or slower.)

Where, specifically, is the 25 mph speed limit you object to?

You sound like the type of person who rides in the left lane when you are going at or below the speed limit and gets mad at the people who have to pass you on the right.

It's a total racket. I got a $125 ticket for going 51 in a 40 mph zone, on a freakin' highway. It's ridiculous. It's a big money-maker, not about safety at all.

Actually I drive in the right lane. I don't speed, but I won't stop you from speeding, if you want to. That's what the police are for -- and speed cameras.

IT WAS A HIGHWAY!! The 40mph limit was ridiculous - I'd nearly get rear ended everytime I drove that stretch afterwards and slow down to 40. It's a giant money grab.

The speed limit was 40 mph. You were going 51 mph. You were speeding. (Everybody else is apparently also speeding. You can console yourself with the thought that they are also getting $125 tickets.)

Lol, why yes, I do actually have a degree in civil engineering. Even studied highway design. How many do you have?

+1

they should be illegal.

Well, it seems to be a stupid tax, only paid by people who speed. What other traffic regs do you not like, stop signs, school zones, or stopping for school bus?

Are you always an @sshole, or just on DCUM? Do you actually drive in DC? You'll get yours, just wait.

Speed cameras result in people slamming on their breaks even when they aren't speeding. see it every day on 16th as we come to a screeching halt from the 30 mph speed limit down to about 22 mph. dangerous and impedes traffic.
