Ashley Wagner sucks

She deserved the benefit of the doubt and a spot on the team, anyone saying otherwise doesn't follow the sport enough to have an informed opinion.

The Olympics aren't a lifetime achievement award. Yes, she was good as recently as a year ago. Now she isn't in the top 3. NBC needed her after Lindsay Vonn pulled out as the "hot" American athlete. Pure and simple. And the lady she replaced, keep in mind, was an experienced Olympian whose only crime was to not be in the mean girls circle with the other skaters. Yes, she is also apparently a gigantic bitch, but I'm guessing there are more of those in the Olympics than NBC cares to acknowledge.

Well Ashley took 3rd at the Grand Prix final in December while Mirai bombed out to 10th place against a weaker field at the Four Continents championship two weeks ago.

Mirai's "crime" is that she hasn't had any decent international results since the last olympics and she is generally viewed as head case-y and lazy.

Entitled, self absorbed, and gross.

I'm surprised Ashley is supposed to be "the hot one" when there's Gracie Gold.

Women are so misogynistic. Male athletes get to be confident...women athletes are cocky bitches.

How do you know? Have you met her?

Look, she's not the best America has ever put up but she's what we have. And, frankly, comments like yours are pretty vile.

I watched her interviews at Junior worlds a few years ago and she was a cocky brat even then.

Ashley Wagner is an accomplished skater. She did not perform her best when it counted. As much as everyone wants to believe all is fair in the Olympics is a fair and equal competition it is not. Figure skating is dominated by politics-- the federation, the ISU, and the judges. Just look at the judging controversy surrounding the ice dancerers.

There is such ignorance on this thread. US Nationals are not and have never been official Olympic trials. USFSA fought tooth and nail to make that happen, and they did. As such, only #1 placed skater at US Nationals is guaranteed a berth on the Olympic team. Everyone else is up to the discretion of USFSA, and they exercised their right to send the skater who they believe will perform under pressure - a feat Nagasu did not accomplish as often as she did. USFSA looks at the skater's entire body of work over the last 12 months, not results of one competition, even it's the one everyone gets to watch. Ashley Wagner's body of work over the last 12 months trumps Nagasu's.

The lady she replaced is a lazy airhead who was dumped by her coach, Frank Carroll, who refused to invest his time into this headcase. I'll take his word over yours.

No, she placed #4 at US Nationals, and was picked for the Olympic team while Mirai Nagasu, who placed 3rd, was left off the team. US Figure Skating Federation is within its rights to do so. Only the National Champion is guaranteed a team slot. Everyone else is at USFSA discretion.

I believe Wagner is the one who switches coaches all the time. Clearly she has trouble getting along with people. She even cut off her parents.

And the men get lauded for it, while you tear the women to shreds.

Shame.
