We do more substantial things and they have never asked "can we go to Disney?" Even after a dinner at a friend's house where the kids and parents were discussing their trip to Disney at the table. DC thought it sounded lame. |
| I love Bethany Beach but 3 days at Disney is a great adventure also. Perhaps you could do a long weekend and still have your Bethany trip. When the weather is awful and schools are closed it is nice to visit sunny Florida. I don't think I would ever spend a week at Disney but many people do. |
"Substantial"!!! Oh, what a superior being you are! Your poor kids. |
What principle? |
Not pp, but your ridiculous "pity" could be channeled in healthier ways. How about you sponsor an underprivileged kid in some meaningful way and lay off the schmaltzy "you must give your children Disney!!" dreck you've bought into? You embarrass me as a fellow American. |
"You embarrass me!!!!" What a riot you are! |
P.S. We already adopted an "underprivileged kid" out of a desparate circumstance, and you can damn well be sure he's been to Disney! |
| I grew up on the East Coast and went to Epcot Center once during my childhood. I'd say it was worth it. We weren't into Disney at all growing up, but in America I feel like Disney is like hamburgers and hot dogs -- it's something everybody knows about. We fit it in as part of an overall trip to Florida, so if you just want to stop for a day while visiting other places in FL, that may be a way to do it. |
| We solved this problem by taking our DC to Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen which was Walt Disney's inspiration for the Magic Kingdom. Win-win. |

You're the parent and you get to decide what your vacations are.
I've never been to Disney, never felt deprived growing up. Kids are 6 & 10 and they've never asked to go. I don't have any plans to take them. At most, if we happened to be out in California near Disneyland, I could do a day there. But not an entire vacation planned around it. We've been to other amusement parks (day trips) such as Hershey. We usually go to one a year. |
You're right, PP is clueless. S/he forgot to mention the rampant adult and child obesity, kids on leashes, middle america, price gouging, central Florida foreclosure capital of America WASTELAND that is Disney. |
| It is possible. We went and it was awfully expensive and crowded. That said, Orlando is a great vacation spot for kids and there are other things to do. Maybe a day or so? Just to say you did it? My DH said, NEVER again. |

The reason people go in Disney is b/c there aren't too many long lines.
I never went growing up and I did just fine. I am sure it was not financially possible for my parents and I never thought about it. It is possible for us to take our child and we have done so a couple of times. It actually IS a vacation for us b/c Disney takes care of so much, from the luggage, to the entertainment to really good customer service. It's a heck of a lot easier than our beach vacation. It's not a must, but, if done right, it's a great time. |
| *in JANUARY |
Well good then. As long as you're exposing your kids to the Disney industrial complex as much as possible you're doing A-OK as a parent.
