Is it possible to totally skip a Disney vacation?

We have no plans to take the kids to Disney. If they feel deprived, they can always honeymoon their Disney later.

I cannot fathom any parent selfish enough not to take their kids to Disney.

Been going since our son was an infant, and he just lights up every time we go! He is over-the-moon happy. No place else on the planet -- and we travel a lot -- makes him as happy as Disney, even as he approaches the dreaded teen years.

You're delusional.

Every time someone makes this claim, a tiny fairy gets her wings!

it's not selfishness; some people just have better taste than that.

So what you're trying to say is that people who go to Disney have poor taste? Some of you are so strange...

I do find the hostility to Disney kind of amazing. It is a very fun place for families and if you like being with your kids while they are having fun, you will enjoy it even if you generally believe that it is silly. Obviously it is silly but my son laughed so hard on the teacups, I was glowing the entire day. My daughter thought the jungle queen animals were real (she was two). I felt so good! They love the beach and playing in the woods and we are planning trips to Europe and the national parks. I don't see the issue as an either/or. I DO think that when people have never been to any Disney park, it is kind of like meeting a 40 year old who hasn't seen Star Wars. They don't seem more sophisticated or worldly. They seem kind of oblivious and sheltered from Americana.

Born and raised in Florida and never went to Disney as a child. I don't even remember being aware of it as a place I should want to go to, and I loved Cinderella, etc. I did finally go as a high school senior for Grad Night (but at that point the park wasn't quite the main attraction...now, those cute boys from Miami...

Anyway, my children are almost teens and have never asked to go to Disney despite plenty of trips to Florida to see relatives. Maybe that's the problem -- Florida is not a vacation state for my family. It's where we go for obligatory visits...

That is funny, being from Northern California, it's a yearly obligatory visit for us. You would think people from there would feel the same way but I find myself feeling grateful that my extended family lives somewhere there is always a lot of fun, beautiful kid friendly stuff to do even if you are just kicking around the Bay Area. I guess it depends where your family lives? Like Sanibel versus Gainesville? Or Miami Beach vs Ocala? SF vs Riverside?
