+1 I would absolutely do this.

We just moved out of a house with a shared driveway. It was such a pain! We were in a similar situation to you with a neighbor who never left the house and didn't care about shoveling. We just sucked it up and did it all on our own. When we bought our new house, I would not look at any houses with a shared driveway. Never again!!!

Reclaim your parking spot.

But if the neighbors don't need the driveway to be shoveled, and it is not required, then they are not mooching off you. We don't shovel our driveway for only a few inches of snow.

Uhh, either way you are the only ones using and shoveling the driveway.

I've talked to people from "up North" who think it's kind of funny that we shovel our driveways here. I can see that the neighbors may not understand being asked to do something that they possibly don't see as necessary. Just a possible alternative explanation for the situation.

I call BS. Notherners are not lazy like here. Nice try.

Seriously. I grew up "up north" and I always shoveled the driveway. The reason we laugh at DCers who shovel is: a) because they never have to do it; and b) they freak out over two inches when it is going to be above freezing the rest of the week. You have to shovel small amounts of snow in the North because it won't melt before the next storm and will accumulate. You don't need to shovel two inches in DC because it will be gone in a day.

Even if you can't block half the driveway, you can shovel two lines, each one snow shovel wide, that run from the back of each of your tires to the end of the driveway. You can easily back in and out along these lines but they're mostly useless to your neighbors.

When it snows, if you have to shovel the driveway, then when you come home, park at the bottom of the driveway (where it comes in from the street) and just leave your car at the entrance. If they want to come up into the driveway, they'll have to come over to your door to ask you to move your car. You can choose not to answer the door or you can say "Oh? Really? I figured since you weren't doing any of the shoveling, that you were not intending to use the driveway." I'm in the middle of something. I'll move my car as soon as I get a chance." Then move it in about 45 minutes into your garage.

This is passive-aggressive, but it sounds like the neighbors deserve this. I would do this.

Sorry, OP.

In what world is that better than just telling the neighbor you don't think they're pulling their weight? Both options will annoy the neighbor and probably won't solve anything, but at least in the latter situation you are behaving like an adult.

I am the neighbor. Take a look at the plat, bud. You have been parking on my property the whole time.
