Do you ever wear your fur coat?

I have to say that when I moved here from an actual cold weather climate, I was astonished at the number of fur coats women wore, usually starting when the temps dipped to dangerous lows in the fifties. People where I'm from don't wear them on a daily basis. It cracked me up.

To OP's question: I inherited two of my Gran's fur coats, but as I'm only in my thirties they still feel like a costume. So, no.

I never understand why people keep trying to make faux fur happen. You have the poster at the top saying fur is "never in" and then there are number of vegan designers who use faux fur, which rather implies that the look of fur is, in fact, "in." I don't buy fur, but I'd sooner buy real than fake for as nasty as the processes are to produce faux fur.

Are you only considering mink? IMO fox coats, including arctic and silver, look more modern; but they only look good on medium to slender bodies.
I agree that you should look for a vintage item vs. buying new. Even outside of ethical considerations, it is not an sensible purchase in terms of cost per wear.

These are nice but in fur-wearing countries long-hair fur like fox is considered a little-girl item, to wear until you're 25 or so. Women should not wear mink if they are under 20-22.

Fox is beautiful, especially silver fox and arctic/blue fox, but silver fox yellows with time (hence it's a little-girl fir). Another superwarm thing is a lynx (which is much lighter than mink) but you'll have trouble finding it in this country.

You might try locating a tourmaline/beige mink, they look modern but don't have the stigma of dark brown mink (which I personally find too stale). You do have to be somewhat slender and tall for fur coats. Do not wear a full-length fur coat if you're short and plump. You'll look like a box on feet.

I wear mine all the time. To work and everything.

Many of us inherited ours.

This. Too bad if you didn't.

I have a question, perhaps another post. Is there a reputable furrier in the area for repairs?

Embarrassed for you.

Rarely. Wear my jacket more than my full length.

Yes. I will think about that as I eat my steak, wear my leather shoes, and prepare my chickens for dinner tomorrow.

Minks are cute but they are vicious rats with nice coats.

This is on point...as is the other poster who wrote about the human cruelty that many of our clothes are made with. However, I rarely wear my fur coat because I feel judged. I don't mind feeling judged for bad fashion choices, but its more of a moral judgement...the same way I'd feel if I was smoking a cigarette on a playground (I don't smoke but you know what I mean).

I am 31 and inherited a short evening cape from my grandmother. It is a blondish/beige mink. I love it and get many, many compliments when I wear it for nights out. I tend to run in a mostly southern transplant, somewhat conservative crowd (I went to college in the south and many of our college friends are in the area), so that could be why I'm not overtly judged for it.

My grandmother has also loaned me her full length coats and I love them. There is nothing warmer.

Lol. if I thought people were judging me for wearing it, likely I would wear it more often. But that's me.

NP here -- I have two faux fur coats; one long and one short. I wear the short one daily to work and when I am out and about shopping I consistently get compliments that I look "warm" -- no one has disparaged me for wearing "fur". I sometimes counter the compliment by letting the person know my coat is not "real" but otherwise... I love my coats and will not stop wearing them.

People can hate the look or not but unless they are a vegan the judgmental 'tude is bullshit.

I hope you never meet a PETA fanatic.

Why? The idiots throwing paint on fur coats crack me up. Insurance. Then you have the $$$ to go buy a new coat resulting in more animals killed.
