I heard an interview with her recently where she pronounced "baby" like "BAEH-BAEH," and that was my first indication that she's been putting on an accent for the show!
She's a truly terrible actress. I laugh out loud sometimes, she's so bad. It's a shame. |
Please don't flame as this could be part of the plot. Cora's maiden name was Levinson, often a Jewish name. Even though she and the daughters now seem to be Church of England, wouldn't she and the daughters be ethnically Jewish? My fear is that Edith's publisher and future citizen of Germany will be caught up in Nazism and dump Edith if they do marry. Not trying to spot the plot, but there is something off about the publisher
|
Hopefully if he gets caught up in nazism she will dump him. She's not that desperate, right? Right? |
Yes, she would dump him, but I am concerned that if she is in Germany with him, he is a Nazi, she is considered a Jewish person -- what happens to Edith?? |
Sorry -- hit submit too quickly I know it is only 1922 |
Google "Nancy Mitford" and "Oswald Mosley." Fun times ahead. |
Or rather, Diana Mitford and Mosley. |
FYI, both Diana and Nancy were Nazis. |
I think that was a choice of the costume designer. They all were dressed in various shades of purple in one scene but it wasn't mourning related. Fashion wise they're still in the Edwardian era. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~sooty/mourning.html I'm glad they're making Edith more attractive. I'm looking forward to future costumes: http://www.1920-30.com/fashion/1920s-fashions.html And of all the characters to kill off, I vote Lady Grantham. She's been annoying from the beginning. |
Agree. I thought Ep2 was a bummer but 3 was quite good. |
That's what people said about season 3. And I didn't think it got better. My guess is that people who have "already seen the season" before it's aired here are people who are die-hard fans who like the show enough to make an effort to get it before it airs in the U.S. So I doubt it gets better. |
I'm another who is pretty sure it won't get better. All the previous seasons were terrible, as far as anachronisms, writing, characterization, and ridiculous plots go. I watch for the looks of it and the costumes and sets. |
Trust me! It gets better than the opening episode but IMO it was not the best season. |
I trust you; after all, it could hardly get worse. What a snooze! To the Lady Grantham-haters, I think Elizabeth McGovern's acting style is supposed to suggest that Cora, having thrown off her embarassing Bucaneer ways, is almost preturnaturally upper-crust British in her reserve and self-control. Either that, or, she's on Valium the entire time. |
I like the show but am not what most would consider a die-hard fan. I saw it because DH is a TV critic. |
