Do you let your preteen daughter wear "jeggings"?

I would rather jeggings or skinny jeans than clothes that hang off of them. With more traditional pants they end up with "bubble butt" because to get the length they need we have to get pants that are way too big in the waist and seat.

At about what age do you plan to allow your girls to date?

Well, given that they are at sports practices 20 hours a week and that will only grow over time, I'm not sure they will have the time. If they do and have any interest in dating, we'll start discussing it around 16.

Not to be blunt, but when they get chased by the jocks, they'll demand to be just like their friends who are going to parties. Here's another fact according to kids in-the-know: "a party isn't a party, unless there's drinking". Super athletes are the ones who most often, at least in the ultra elite high schools, get away with the most risky behavior. Their parents and teachers look the other way, as long as they figure out how to keep fooling you with their lies. By the time they get to high school, they have mastered the fine art of deception. Some of them know damn well, that as long as they don't get caught, all is well. The parents hear what they want to hear, and the kids are doing whatever they want. Cheating on tests and homework is par for the course, just as much as their other destructive behavior is. Please don't kid yourself here. We all want to think "not my kid". Think again. It can easily be your kid, sooner than you think.

So, let me get this straight….if I allow my daughters to wear jeggings then they will most definitely start lying to me, partying, cheating in school and, quite simply, become troubled and bad kids. Although I think I know the answer can you let me know where you stand on girls getting raped when they wear short skirts? They deserve it, don't they?!

It's so good to see that the parents on this board are continuing with their spot-on analysis of situations (heavy sigh…)

It's good to know that there are parents on this board who are reasonable and thoughtful in their analysis of situations….

Why not respond to what was said, rather than conjecture?

Tweens being allowed "grown up" behavior can have major repercussions. Inappropriate sexy clothing is often indicative of larger issues, not to mention the unintended attention and uncomplementary comments of total strangers.

Leggings aren't pants. My 12 yr old wears them with a long sweater or under a dress but not by themselves with a short top. That would be 1) not in style, b) ridiculous looking, and c) not acceptable in this house.

Fortunately, jeggings do not fall under this category.

According to this thread, there seems to be a difference of opinion with regard to that.

There are many kinds of jeggings. There are ones designed to look sexy, and then there are generic ones that look like everyday skinny jeans.

Ok. I thought they were "skin-tight", hugging the legs. Didn't know they had that much "give", but it can depend on the fit.

They look like skinny jeans to me.

By the way, the model does not look like the 8-to-10-year-olds I know.

LOL At the private my DD goes to they have a dress code... pretty strict. But they all wear stretch "pants" otherwise known as jeggings. No jeans, though.

At least no bubble butt. Is it really that essential to see that little bottom of hers? Oh yeah, they feel better to.

"All Grown Up and No Where to Go" is about tweens who are allowed inappropriate behavior, written by child psychologist David Elkind.

You may want to read it.

I would like to know more, before I order the book. Does he say that 10-year-old girls who wore leggings as pants grow up to be teenagers who behave badly?

Leggings are not pants. Leggings/Jeggings need long tunic/sweater tops. That's all.

Is the photo jeggings or skinny jeans?
