They will also deliver to your house in DC, so you do not have to haul it around. Tell them how much you want to spend per bottle and they find great matches.

OOOhhhh this is super helpful!

+1

Moco and their prohibition-like alcohol sales policies, sigh.

The one exception, strangely, is hard liquor, where you can sometimes get great deals in the county liquor stores on bourbon, whiskey, etc - far better than anything I have seen in DC.

Their prices are generally not quite as good as Costco, though on sale they sometimes come very close, but CW's selection is incomparably finer.

Coscto is kind of a cult place among wine buyers mostly because you can stumble across a very good wine at a very good price while you are looking for a deal on 30 lbs of mayonnaise. But much of their stock is very pedestrian, right off the back of the truck of the largest distributors and prices on regular stuff not so great. I have never been a fan of Calvert & Woodley, too narrow and I find the service off-putting, but I think I am generally an outlier. If you live on Capitol Hill, Schneider's is typically a joy, though also incredibly narrow aisles, but I have not been there in a long time.

World market (there's one in Chevy Chase). A good selection and you get a discount if you buy 4 bottles or more.

I have never been a huge fan of Calvert Woodley either, particularly the service. One other place that hasn't been mentioned and has great service and decent prices is Magruders, right off CC circle.

I thought the entire Magruders chain closed?

Another vote for Total Wine! I go to the one in Laurel. Their staff are helpful, and they usually have a $15 off on $100 spent on wine.
