OP, if you're willing to pay the local markup, the suggestions for Paul's, Rodman's, and Calvert Woodley are all fine. Ace Beverage in Foxhall and Macarthur Wines in Palisades are also quality shops where you'll find knowledgeable staff and quality stuff. They all offer case discounts (I think). If you want any kind of advice, go to one of those.
However, if you know what you want, you're buying in serious quantity and are looking to really save coin, there are only two answers: Costco and Total Wine. Decide what's easier for you--the Costco on NY Ave (the one in Pentagon City's a zoo), or Total Wine in McLean, and off you go. As for us pathetic Marylanders , we live in pathetic Maryland. We must abandon hope. The answers above apply to us too. (If you're truly unwilling to leave the People's Republic, I'm told that the Rodman's here are as good as the one in DC. But you'll pay the Montgomery County markup. Me, I do my wine shopping in DC or online.) |
| Total Wine in Laurel. They also sell liquor unlike the ones in VA, though I think that means that their wine selection is not as good, because the floor space looks to be about the same. |

If you're in PG, not MoCo, the answer's easy. Costco on NY Ave. |

Meant to refer to 20:42, not the first 20:44. Total Wine in Laurel would also be great. |
| Argentinean Malbec in Costco VA. |
+1 Moco and their prohibition-like alcohol sales policies, sigh. |

| Another vote for Total Wine in McLean. |
| The Bottle Store on Seven locks |
| Good advice on the whole. Know that most places will give you a 20% discount on a case of the same wine and less of a discount on a mixed case. I find Paul's in DC has a good selection at reasonable prices (not the cheapest but fair), they are very nice and they are also always willing to wheel and deal, which I also like. At most DC stores -- DC has very favorable rules for importing -- if you make the place your regular shop, they will give you even better deals, things that are just coming in etc. Peter Weygendt in Cleveland Park is also excellent on service and selection though it skews heavily French, and they too will strike a bargain, and are apt to open things for you to taste. As noted, you should probably drive to West Virginia before buying in MoCo, though you can occasionally do ok at Cork 47 in Bethesda. |
| Total Wine for sure. Check for a coupon, they have them often and you can just show it on your phone. Much better selection than Costco, especially if you are looking for decently priced sparkling. |
| Safeway in Georgetown has soem incredible deals. You need to know what you are looking for |
I've gotten good deals at the Safeway in Palisades too. They've got some nice wines. But not sure it's the place to go for cases. I don't think they do a case discount, not even sure they have case boxes to carry the wine out! |
| We also live in CCDC and I would go to Calvert Woodley. They re having their fall sale and the prices are better than Total Wine (not sure about Costco). They will also deliver to your house in DC, so you do not have to haul it around. Tell them how much you want to spend per bottle and they find great matches. |
