Why getting into a better college - is a stupid reason to go to a Big 3 / other top private

Sorry but I'm not in the mood to speak what you define as eloquent and using verbiage (yes, that's the correct spelling) that is only comprehensible with a dictionary at your elbow. I am tired of white people assuming that black people are not well-read and intelligent enough to get into HYP without affirmative action. Stop reading the National Enquirer and DCUM and try looking at other materials that truly define the African American intellectual.

Enough of the bullshit pity party about affirmative action. Harvard Law will not, does not, and never will admit ANYONE who can't hold their own or doesn't have the grades and moxie to handle the load regardless of affirmative action. You know it and I know it.

Whatever you think of President Obama, whether you like him or not, he's got the smarts. Being black doesn't have one damn thing with getting into Harvard Law because 'it's the cool thing to do'. Please, people!

Yep, i agree. I am a white woman, went to HLS, and can say nobody that i encountered was anything other than really, really smart. The couple who struck me as duller than the rest were actually white guys (probably just because there were more white guys than any other demographic group).
If affirmative action takes a minority kid from a less prestigious high school with grwat grades and scores versus a white kid with great grades and scores from a more prestigious school, who are you to say who's more deserving? If you really hate unfairness, rail against the legacy/ rich donor family preference. That shit is offensive.

They're also the ones who write the seven figure checks to construct campus buildings, libraries, labs, etc., that bear their names. Then again, they can write seven figure checks courtesy of the gracious donations of the middle class to their business coffers. Hey, I want my name next to Rockefeller's at the school library!

You are truly ignorant. The beneficiaries of affirmative action in college admissions are male. Do your homework before you open your big mouth. But I'm sure you're a white male and therefore entitled to open your big pie hole, right?

There was no mention about college admitted women, just women in general. According to the United States Labor Department, the primary beneficiaries of affirmative action are white women. The Department of Labor estimated that 6 million women workers are in higher occupational classifications today than they would have been without affirmative action policies.

You certainly draw a lot of conclusions PP. I would take a deep breath and read the comment before you put pen to paper and draw assumptions that are not there. You might also work on your vocabulary so you needn't resort to name calling.

I'm not PP but calm down. In college admissions men are the beneficiaries of affirmative action but in almost other contexts its women.

I worry too.. but honestly, I'm not sure it makes that much of a difference. I graduated with a 1020 SAT and scored 520 on the GMAT. Husband scored similiarIy and we have income in the low 200's. I have family that were NMSFs. They have similiar income to us but more debt. I know we have to work harder but I don't think we have a substantially worse quality of life so maybe I shouldn't stress.

1020 SAT? Wow. You must have guessed at all the answers and filled in your name.

I'm not the PP, but presumably this was when the maximum SAT score was 1600.

I too have read that white men are now big beneficiaries of affirmative action. Fewer white men than women apply to college, and colleges want rough gender parity.

OP, how does it feel to be benefiting, or maybe your son will benefit, from this policy you claim to hate?

Hell, no, I'm staying as far away from this toxic administration as possible.

Have you left the country, sweet cheeks? If not, you're there for it. Must eat your guts out with envy, hahaha!
