I heard about the incidents at BCC here and (if I remember correctly) in a local newspaper (perhaps the Gazette) and I agree that it was awful. I don't think it is fair to interject race/class into this discussion because that tends to shut down the conversation. I have been shocked by the language I hear when I pick dc up at Eastern and I am not alone. I hope you are right about the administration being firm about behavior that makes girls feel uncomfortable or unsafe. I hope the students responsible were disciplined. The magnet program is amazing and I think the teachers do a fantastic job. I know my child will be a more confident student at the end of the program - it is sad to see the positive messages dc gets in the classroom undermined by the behavior of some students in the hallways. |
Yes, ok, but to be fair .... maybe kids in the "better" schools don't use bad language in the hallways as frequently, but look on their instagram accounts and you will see plenty of F words! My point is just that I think Eastern gets unfairly portrayed in a lot of these comments. And honestly I have NEVER heard kids in the halls cursing. Doesn't mean they don't, but it's not all the time. And it may not be fair to inject race/class but I think that's what a lot of people mean when they say they are uncomfortable with Eastern. |
Roberto Clemente, too. |
