No one takes US News seriously anymore.

+1
a few years back, CHEC aka Bell Multicultural HS was in the top 50 even though even though it is a known fact that the school is a drop out factory.
It was Maria Tukeva and her PR people who made a big deal about it until they realized how rediculous it sounded and looked.
Teachers were writing blogs about how students who could barely read at 6th grade level were forced to take multiple AP classes.

The ranking of the schools depend heavily on the number of AP classes students are "forced" to take

Just because one school was able to game the system one year does not allow you to throw out the baby with the bathwater. And the baby is that we don't have a single school in the TOP 200, while Whiteman, Churchill etc may go up or down a little each year, we are not even in the game, man

Plop!

It's just an easy mistake. The E and T keys are very close together on a keyboard. 18:26's finger obviously slipped.

I discover myself on the verge of a usual mistake.

why don't you educate us? Or why don't you just stop blowing smoke and admit that when Banneker's SAT scores are below the NATIONAL AVERAGE and it is supposed to be our TJ there is something really wrong, even if instead of being #447 it should have been... where?

Whatever college readiness is, like most other things US News & World Report has us WAY behind the top Md and VA schools. While they may be off by 100, this is just plain an embarrassment. We did not even have 5 schools that were RANKED people. Take your heads out of the sand.
SWW ranks higher than New Trier and Scarsdale.

SWW is by application so it's supposedly a magnet like TJ... But with much lower standards. New Trier and Scarsdale HS are neighborhood HS like McLean, Churchill, etc.

.
There are 26,000+ public high schools in the US.
Banneker is ranked in the top 2%.

Who gives a crap? Hell, people emigrate here from foreign countries to attend TJ.

LOL. No, they don't.

SWW is nothing like TJ. So please don't make this idiotic comparison. If you want TJ then move.

No one really wants to have a true discussion about the disparities that exist in our education system. Banneker is NOT supposed to be our TJ. If you want to have a real discussion then read up on all the literature that discusses and tries to address the educational disparities that play out by income and race in DC and elsewhere in this country. You can start with Shame of the Nation If you've read this board long enough, YOU KNOW, that folks can't engage in a thoughtful discourse about this topic without it getting ugly. Folks don't want to listen to the white families that go through DCPS and end up with college-ready kids.

Actually, they do. At least from South Korea, the mom brings the kids while dad stays in Korea. Very common and there are companies set up that help people do this. It's been written about in the S. Korean press for at least the past decade.

That is true. The only thing SWW and TJ have in common are that they are application only schools. If you are going to compare schools, neighborhood HSs that allows everyone in because one lives in bounds like Churchill, New Trier, etc should not be judged by the same standards as entrance by application only like Banneker, SWW, TJ, etc.

BASIS Tucson #2, TJ #4, BASIS Scottsdale #5. I know everyone is going to say that it doesn't matter in terms of DC but BASIS Oro Valley in AZ was only not ranked because they are at 10th grade, but they are clearly going in the same direction if you look at the scores and I expect BASIS DC to fall somewhere up there next year now that there is a crop of 9th graders (not ranked, but evaluated).

Wish I could post a link but I am a true luddite. All the schools in DC that have 12th graders are on the list, and you can search by state. Some of ours fared pretty well...The college list is out too

By state:
1. SWW
2. Banneker
3. Ellington
4. Mckinley Tech
Cesar Chavez.....

A Washington Post article describes the phenomenon and effects it has had on the school.
Doing research is not impossible. Nitpicking about plurals dos not help in any way.
