My dh died several years ago. I see him all the time. No joke.

I'm always amazed that people can look at all the tragedy and evil in the world and still believe in a kind and loving God.

God doesn't cause evil.

I have to believe it if I am to have any solace when I lose a loved one.

So you don't believe god is omnipotent?

I do. Not in the Christian teaching of Heaven/Hell, but I believe our psychic energy persists in some manner. I think there is so much that we can't understand or explain, but it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Omnipotent yes
but we have free will

That's what I think, too, for better or for worse.

Why does God answer some prayers and not others?
How could a loving God allow Newtown?

I am hopeful that there is a God but I find it hard to believe in God or life after death.

If you believe in god, you believe god created the evil that arises from free will. Are you Christian? How do you reconcile the Old Testament, if you do not believe that god causes evil? Is it the devils fault? And who created the devil?

No matter how you look at it, god created, caused, and is responsible for the prevalence of what you call "evil."

Because God gave mankind free will. He does not move us around like chess pieces on a board. Mankind has the ability to create great good but also great evil. I believe God is saddened beyond measure when we do wrong.
