The moms listserves that I know of are all determined by zip codes or neighborhoods as well as whether you work full time, part time or not at all.

There's the moms clubs of south arlington(although I believe there are two south Arlington clubs split by zip codes/neighborhoods) and the fairlington moms club and mona.

It's still active. There are also KaloramaPlaygroup, MmomsintheCity, and, for those of us who are considered "mature," DCMM40somethingmoms, all on Yahoo.

For the 40something moms list, do you have to live in DC? I'm in MoCo, but definitely 40-something.

It's more of a calendar and event listing than a listserv or meet-up group, but it's handy (and on Facebook they send one post a day about free things to do with your kiddo)

Thanks so much. Checking it out.

In Alexandria there is Old Town Moms and Del Ray parents. Both are yahoo groups.

So these yahoo groups require having a yahoo email address?

No. You can join with any email address.

There is a Pimmit Hills parents listserve that I find quite helpful.

Does the Chevy Chase listserve have a parent/child section?

What about the NE side of Cap Hill, near Galludet/Trinidad/H Street? I see a fair amount of parents with young kids around here, but I imagine most families ending up heading over to Capital Hill for family friendly events since it's only a mile or so away.

MOM (moms of mclean)
SA (South Arlington) moms has one also

How so? MONA is Mothers of North Arlington and welcomes any parent in....north Arlington

Doesn't MONA also have a requirement that the mom not work full time?

No. It has at least one working parents subgroup. Of the members I know it's about a 50/50 mix of working/SAH parents. There aren't many dads, but there are a few.

and there is a very good number that don't even live in Arlington. I assume they lived in Arlington whenever they signed up initially, but 1/2 of the people on Marketplace selling their junk don't even live in Arlington.

oh relax poster - she was just saying it's very restrictive to the zip codes.
many of the DC ones aren't restrictive to the zip codes, and you can join if you are close to that neighborhood.

Exactly why MONA has the reputation that it does.

Oh. Is it a bad rep? I am pregnant, FTM in North Arlington. I dont live in one of the $1m houses though. I guess we are "middle class" in our condo. Will we not fit here? I have lots of friends in the area with kids but we are the only ones in North Arlington so I was hoping for a good place for resources closer to my neighborhood. Should I skip MONA?

I live in Lorton and asked about this a while ago, and it didn't seem like there were any Lorton/Burke area listservs, so you just inspired me to create one. It's called "123 Parents" (for parents who live near or around Route 123 in Lorton and Fairfax Station) on Google Groups. You're welcome to be the first subscriber other than me!

(To join 123 Parents, you need a Google or Gmail account, but emails can be sent to any email address you want.)

Hope other area moms and dads will join!
