What horror movies should I watch?

I didn't see 28 Days Later mentioned, but it's a good zombie movie

Black Christmas (the original, not the remake) has always creeped me out

Prom Night (original) and Terror Train are entertaining early 80s horror movies and The Lost Boys is fun late 80s horror/comedy.

Dawn of the Dead was remade also, I prefer the remake to the original.

Question for OP: are you looking for the blood and guts style horror film (slasher flicks) or do you also like Psychological thrillers? Supernatural thrillers? That would probably narrow down the recommendations.

If you are in to any of the zombie/post-apocalyptic horrors (my favorite because I find them the scariest), I'd recommend:

28 days later (still scares the crap out of me)
I Am Legend
The Walking Dead TV series

I loved 28 Days Later.

I wouldn't recommend that to someone who wants a true horror flick. it's pretty bad.

I agree. I called the "plot twist" within the first 5 minutes

Jesus Camp was one of the scariest movies I've ever seen

I like scary movies, but have a low tolerance for dumb ones. My fave classics are Halloween, Carrie, and the Shining. For new-ish ones:

Insidious
The Strangers -- this is one of those movies that left me feeling scared for WEEKS

Oh, and The Others...one of my all time favorites.

When a Stranger Calls
Cape Fear
Fatal Attraction

I cannot remember the name, but it was a terrifyingly true story about a young couple who just got engaged, go to a rural cabin, and are stalked/terrorized by 3 people. The scariest movie I have ever seen.

The Strangers. I'm the pp from above who said is left me scared for weeks. Loved it! (and hated it for making me sleep with lights on for so long).

The Sixth Sense
Chernobyl Diaries
Alien
Aliens
World War Z
28 Days Later
The Divide
John Carpenter's "Vampires"

For laughs, watch Shaun of the Dead

YOu watch all of these flicks and you are going to give birth to Chucky!
Good Grief -- how could you watch all of these and still sleep?

The Descent

Another vote for The Others - great atmosphere, very spooky. Saw it in the theater with two, huge, guy friends of mine. At one point they both shrieked next to me like little children.

OP, are you open to foreign subtitled movies?

Halloween and Halloween II -- Rob Zombie is a brilliant director and Malcolm McDowell is a great actor.

They've also said 'NO" to Halloween III, so they know to quit when they're ahead.

My husband says that I fall asleep as soon as my little head hits the pillow. So, I guess I sleep okay. My son is lovely, unlike Chucky. I did not like Chucky. It was stupid.

BTW, I forgot to put "Quarantine" on the list. The first one, not the sequel.
