Wegmans and Walmart coming to Tysons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous
A reasonably sized Wegmans would be fine, it's just a grocery store. But I would not want a Walmart in my neighborhood.

Rich people are stupid if they want to pay double for the same item

I don't think I've ever seen a "small" Wegmans. The one in Fairfax does have a parking garage though.

They have awesome birthday cakes. The best.

I don't think the Costco in P-City looks like exurbia. Exurban costcos have tons of parking, wide aisles, mounds of beautiful produce and are almost eerily empty during the week. The Costco in Pentagon City is more like a Soviet era Costco. The lines alone!

Agree with the previous poster, Costco's in Pentagon City has long lines, bland produce, and the parking lot is a nightmare. I actually enjoy driving in downtown more than driving there. We go once per 2 months because my hubby loves there for whatever reason.

New Englanders, are you from MA? Do you know Roche Bros.? It puts Wegmans to shame. Roche's is "still" family owned, and they don't have unnecessary crap in the store. It is only slightly more expensive, but actually justified.

You get what you pay for there! (Unlike Whole Foods/Whole Paycheck, for example}. I think it started in Wellesley, which is a gorgeous, uber rich {old money, truly} college and more town. A town that doesn't accept sub par anything. Very different than what others are used to and accept as status quo (sadly).

But parking lots are better if they're in Arlington.

Show a photo of the interior of Wegman's. Massive shopping carts jammed into cramped aisles and shoved by bitchy women and clueless men trying to figure out whether Gorgonzola is an ok substitute for Roquefort.

That's what happens in arlington because the stores are too small and they can't stock everything.

Why is this news? Tyson's is 1 hour from DC, a Walmart is being built in Kansas, but I don't give a rats ass about that either.

You think? My family used to go to the Roche Brothers in Acton. Great store, but I do prefer Wegman's. They renovated it a few years ago and it is nicer than it used to be. I actually don't get the whole "I'm a New Englander, Wegman's doesn't impress me" attitude. I think it is a nice grocery store and, all other things being equal, given a choice between it and Giant, I chose Wegman's. I live in Falls Church and, depending on traffic, I see myself driving a few extra miles to go to Wegman's occassionally. I do understand why people don't like the big box footprint and extra traffic. I don't want one to open too close to my house.

So I guess Columbia Heights (home of Target) is just another exurb? Or the Costco in Pentagon City ... makes it like unto Ashburn?

Maybe it's me, but supermarkets don't impress me.

I feel pity for people who get excited for a grocery store. You really need to find more joy in life.

It's funny all you people talk about boycotting Walmart but will shop at Costco for the exact same product. Fucking entitled idiots around here. I'll be driving out from DC across Chain Bridge to walmart just to show solidarity.

I tend to agree with this but I did get strangely excited when they announced the Trader Joes in Clarendon that I could walk to. Not enough to post on a message board about it though.

All you New Englanders, does anyone know Stew Leonard's? I am from here (Northern VA) but I remember going to SL's as a kid when we would visit my grandparents in CT.
