yes, the doctors you listed are a Cardiothoracic (open heart) surgeon and a transplant surgeon. Some of the most highly trained physicians there are (9+ years of residency after medical school). Both could make much more in the private sector.
By law, the VA doesn't have to follow the GS scale for physician pay so they can provide all aspects of health care to veterans (including open heart surgery, etc).
The vast majority their physicians make far, far less and fall well within the federal pay scale. My husband (an internist) was hired at about $140k. Also, salaries are very strictly regulated by specialty and transparent.

p.s. quit whining, those of you complaining about your salaries being posted. I'm a 26 yr. Fed (recently retired) and your grade and step have always been public information disclosable under FOIA.

I think it is a security risk for people and a violation of privacy. Not everybody needs to know where you work. Salary I agree is ok but your agency and location not so much. At the end of the day though, if you know someone's GS level and location, you know their salary range already. It creeps me out that my ex can find out where I am during the day.

I'm not on that database. That said, I make shit money and entering a 4th pay freeze year with furloughs this year, so if someone looks me up they are pretty pathetic!

I'm fully aware that my salary and GS step are FOIA-able. However, I did not realize that information associated with what agency I work for is also public. I don't care for that. I have no issues with people knowing what I make, but I don't care to disclose to many people what agency I work for as I don't care for the stigma attached.

Hate to break it to you, but you can find out far more detailed information than this about your location just by googling. Especially if you own a home, the tax records are all public info as well. 5 minutes on google and I can find sites listing my home address pulled from publicly available data. Way more specific than the pay database that just says I work in Washington DC (but not which building of many that my agency has).

But there's a big difference between jobs, grade and step salaries being public information and your name being published on the internet with your location and salary.

I'm fine with them posting job titles and the grade and step and salary that goes with it. But listing names with salaries online goes too far in my view.

I love how retired Feds are like "it's always been public." Well, yeah, but it used to be that a person had to make an effort to get the information and tie it to a particular person. It wasn't like your inlaws could just google your name and have your specific salary information.
