Someone is casing our house

You need to call the police and file a report. This way if you have issues with this person again there is a file and history. Also, take a photo of him or even record the next conversation. With smartphones these days just turn on the video feature and leave it on a desk or even in your pocket.

It was a windy day and we chalked it up to the wind. But they were great.

I had gone w the baby and sat in the car until they came.

Also - next time you think you see the guy. Take a picture w your phone. Even if it is from an upstairs bedroom.

Also if you see a car that you think may be associated w him - take a picture - go for a walk and write down plates.

If you do not know your neighbors - get to know them.

And print out the picture and stick it to your front and back doors.

Sometimes one needs confirmation that they are not being paranoid, especially if you are a SAHM and this becomes the exciting event of your day. SAHM here.

I want to know why your husband opened the door to a stranger?

One word: cameras. Many of them.

My friend has a creepy neighbor who is obsessed with their comings and goings, among other intricacies. They posted cameras and have caught the neighbors actually being worse than my friends ever imagined! Lets just say that neighbor is in extremely deep trouble.

Cameras are one of their many sources of proof. Without them, my friend would be the one who looked like the "crazy neighbor". In addition, the (real) crazy neighbor is preoccupied with appearances, so my friend having proof (in addition to the cameras), is priceless!

GL OP. It is no fun having a neighborhood crazy.

OMG please share some of the things creepy neighbor has done!

My mom found, under our ground floor living room window, long after we kids had moved out, piles of cigarette stubs. Someone had been standing outside the window, smoking, and watching her watch TV.

Also, this is why when someone rings your bell you DON'T OPEN THE DOOR. Find out who it is first.

And let him see you taking the pic. That may scare him off.

PP here. I think there is a pending lawsuit, so I have not been made aware of the details, but I know the neighbor is not very smart, thinks my friend is as dumb as (the neighbor), and the neighbor stands to lose everything. There are other neighbors unknowingly involved. There are stalking, mobbing, and other charges involved. Some people are creepy, have an inflated view of themselves (and their place in life) and have a distorted view of reality.

So many neighbors approached my friend when my friend first moved in, and the friend refused to believe it. But now the friend is grateful for all of the people on her side, without ever having said a word herself!

The creepy neighbor tries to approach the new neighbors, since the creepy neighbors reputation is so irreparably sullied (by the creepy neighbors own doing, apparently) among the existing neighbors.

Suffice it to say, the more the creepy neighbor opens their mouth, the worse they look. The creepy neighbor is obsessed and off kilter, at best. The funny part is the creepy neighbor is preoccupied with "appearances", but keeps ruining it for themselves. The local administrations are well aware of the reputation the creepy neighbor has made for themselves. The creepy neighbor just has no boundaries, and no idea when to say when - like most criminals.

Anyway, document everything and get a good lawyer if you have to, OP. Proof is what the perp thinks you don't have, so stock up on it!

So helpful. Thanks.

Not all of us want to report every lower class person hanging out in a rich neighborhood.

And this, THIS is how people get murdered, robbed, raped, etc.

No actually, this is how very, very few people get murdered or raped. Most of those crimes are committed by someone the victim has a personal relationship with -- not a stranger who comes knocking on their door. This is, however, how burglaries happen. And that's why the OP should call the police. Chief Lanier came to our neighborhood association meeting and told us to call in every suspicious thing. The police will decide if it's worth following up on. There could have been 5 other calls about this same guy this week. Maybe you're being paranoid, but better safe than sorry. There are a lot of burglaries in DC.

For the record, call 911 for police, not 311. This has been the rule since 1998. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/jan/20/dcs-911-311-lines-to-merge/?page=all

Sorry, 2008.

Why has no one stated the obvious solution?

Get a gun.

Unless you're in DC, where you have to cower to a home invader and just hope he doesn't feel like raping you.

Refuse to be a victim.
