This was a real post on my neighborhood listserv

What a horribly selfish mom. That child is going to grow up to be a raving lunatic.

There's a line that you don't cross- when someone posts a message with their and their child's name on it. They are doing it in good faith that their kind neighbors won't publicly shame them as you are doing here.

Sure, the message is stupid, but I look more poorly on you, OP. I also think that the website admin should not allow this kind of posting that is a kind of "public shaming" for other messages that were posted in good faith that they would not be circulated for widespread ridicule.

But no one's name is mentioned. And all we know is what town it is from. I think you are way over reacting.

Not the OP, but that's a ridiculous argument. Anytime you post something on a ListServ, it's pretty much fair game. It's not a private email sent to a friend. It is a public message on a public listserve. If you don't want your words broadcasted, don't post stupid stuff like that. OP didn't even give any specific details as in names, car description, name of street.

In any case, the mom who originally posted this on the listserve obviously wanted attention, and she got it.

I love neighborhood listservs. I still laugh about one neighbor who stated self righteously that she was going to extend the hand of friendship to the convicted child molester that had just moved in as a renter in some crazy old lady's basement.

I think you're not being very understanding. Imagine that you post a message about something that bothers you, then you get on DCUM to see that thousands of people are anonymously discussing you. It's simply not very nice. I'm sorry if you're unable to comprehend. It's the kind of behavior that most of us are trying to teach our five year olds. When yours grow up to be assholes, it will be because you think it's ok to take a message that someone put their name on and then make fun of them.

Grow some balls. If you want to make fun of someone, put your name on it, and put your message on the list serve. Don't be a complete wuss and loser and come on here anonymously to mock them!!!!

Are you for real? Since when is there a confidentiality contract for neighborhood listserve?

And there is no name or name of child given.

Actually, I agree with the poster who objected to OP's post on the grounds that what goes on in the neighborhood stays in the neighborhood. OP, you're just looking to start something in your hood.

It is fair game because people like you have no scruples. It is meant to be within the listserve, not shared around.

And all of the people on that list serve know who we are talking about, so no, this is not anonymous.

You are way overreacting.

There is NO NAME given. Anywhere.

If this had happened in my neighborhood it would be more like.

Hey Neighbors - some asshat just yelled at my kid about throwing a pinecone out the window.

Don't worry about it though. I stopped that shit by getting out of the car and punching him the face.

Last time someone yells at one of our kids.

Bad ass MOTHER REDACTED Mother of YOU KNOW MY KID REDACTED
