No, no, no. They are the WORST! The worst quality and the WORST customer service.

Agreed! DH and I left Marlo and went directly to Ikea.

It's been 8 years and our furniture is in great condition. Well, there are some nicks, bumps, and stains, but the bones are still good.
I'm glad we've had Ikea for the kids destructive years.

This. Never ever ever.

It took me 3 months, plus multiple BBB complaints to get all my furniture. And it's still a big load of crapola after all that.

I actually think Ikea furniture is made reasonably well for its price point; to me a step up is generally only a step up in quality.

I have been very pleased with our restoration hardware items, but I know that price point is not what PP was looking for. I'm not sure there is a good mid-grade between the two.

Ugh - mean to write PRICE!

"I'm the PP - also meant to say that the stuff I have from Ikea has lasted for 8+ years "

Some Ikea stuff was crap (same as Target; anything that is that cheap) but other stuff seems pretty solid. We have book shelves from there that are really heavy duty and I love - also were quite cheap. Wrought iron bed is doing 100% fine 14 years in. Really depends what you plan to get. If you can inherit great, old furniture that's obviously best but if you are building from the ground up and hate yard sales, strategic IKEA usage is critical!

I wouldn't buy anything w/o aitting on it first. I muct have sat on 30 chairs at 4-5 stores before I found one that was comfortable.

OP here. I have a few inherited pieces and then some IKEA ones too. I have a wrought iron bed (glad to hear it is holding up, this is good news) and also these wooden chairs (with cushions) that come apart easily and have survived like 4 moves.

I found something I like at Target and the reviews are very favorable as to the quality and durability so I might go with that.

Awful, awful quality. Don't waste your money. Try Belfort.

We went in there to try to find a simple rug. There were loads of salesmen just standing around and no one would help us. Very strange. Felt like some kind of front or a bad used car sales lot. Super creepy .

Value City Furniture for couches. I don't do second hand upholstery.

Ikea for bookshelves

Craigslist for other stuff.

That's surprising to hear. I've never had trouble getting service at the one in Bailey's Crossroads.

I found that HAverty's and Basset have good quality for cheaper than the Ethan Allen's and restoration hardware. I like the stuff at Room and Board, but thought it was pricey.
