"I'm the PP - also meant to say that the stuff I have from Ikea has lasted for 8+ years " Some Ikea stuff was crap (same as Target; anything that is that cheap) but other stuff seems pretty solid. We have book shelves from there that are really heavy duty and I love - also were quite cheap. Wrought iron bed is doing 100% fine 14 years in. Really depends what you plan to get. If you can inherit great, old furniture that's obviously best but if you are building from the ground up and hate yard sales, strategic IKEA usage is critical!
OP here. I have a few inherited pieces and then some IKEA ones too. I have a wrought iron bed (glad to hear it is holding up, this is good news) and also these wooden chairs (with cushions) that come apart easily and have survived like 4 moves. I found something I like at Target and the reviews are very favorable as to the quality and durability so I might go with that.
