| 14:34 Do you listen to the airline attendants go through the safety drill every time you board a plane? |
|
Your daughter didnt listen when someone was speaking that she was supposed to be listening to. Period. I do think the punishment didnt fit the crime and was a little harsh, but the bigger point is that you seem to be justifying that she really didnt need to listen, because it didnt apply to her. Just cant imagine teaching my kids something like that. When their butts are in school, they do what the teachers tell them to do. Period. (Obviously within legal, reasonable limits). School is not the place where kids decide what THEY are going to do. As for hair extensions, it has little to do with the school issue. Unless you decide to tie the two together, which it does sound like you are doing. |
| I would allow grams to get the extensions. DD has already learned a bitter lesson I'm sure. What a racket that she can't speak at graduation. I feel like schools are always much harsher on girls than boys. |
|
Hair extensions for a 14 yo? Your DD seems a bit judgey about how other girls dress and fake hair at that age is, well, just as "skanky" as anything else if you ask me.
And I agree with the PP who said that she probably should not be referring to other girls as skanky, either. Sounds like a self-righteous, misdirected faux feminazi in the making to me. Correct this now! |
Let her get them and enjoy them - you can't get tacky hair extensions and enjoy them when you have to work in an office and look 'classy'
|
| WTF?? Aren't extensions totally damaging to the hair and scalp? 8th grade? No f-ing way! I have never had extensions in my life. I think they look ratty and trashy too. |
Um. Actually, the word for "people who think that people need to stop making connections between girls' sexual behavior, girls' clothing, and girls' human worth" is "feminists". |
| ^ Yes and the word feminist does not describe OP's daughter. A feminist would have put in her earbuds because she isn't going to listen to someone perpetuate the school of thought that says females have less of a right to express themselves through clothing than males (and other females) have a responsibility to respect that choice. OP's daughter was in a snit because she determined that she was above the skanky, as she called them. She herself made a judgment about other girls' sexual behavior based on their appearance. That is not the making of an authentic feminist, but a feminazi who makes it bad for all of us...for example, my coworker who says that heels make women look like sluts and as a feminist she thinks they should all be banned from the workplace. Nope, not a feminist. A feminazi. Just as destructive to other women as a chauvinistic man. |
| PP, you are of course welcome to use the word "feminazi" to mean whatever you want it to mean -- but be prepared for many people to misunderstand you; specifically, people who understand "feminazi" to mean "a pejorative for 'feminist' invented by Rush Limbaugh". |
| Rush misunderstands what a feminist is as well. This girl is turning into that brand of person. That was my only point. |
