sorry, but where do you live? mogadishu? in my lifetime I ended up without power several times, and all I can remember is the candle-ligt reading, going to bed early and stuff like that. never crossed my mind the idea that we needed the weapons (which we did not have) out

Google William Petite to read about a home invasion/burglary that turned into a nightmare of rape and murder. You'll want to geg a gun after that!

you do not sound very smart either. if you really goggled william petit, and understood what you read, you would know that a gun would not have helped him (but a dog probably would - and, BTW, how do you know that william petit did not have a gun?). he was attacked while sleeping, woke up bleeding with injuries to his head. his family was also surprised in their sleep. a gun would not have helped his family, while a good alarm, or even a good dog would have alert him that somebody was trying to break into his home.

PP here about the Connecticut home invasion. Certainly Dr. Petit did not have a chance to get a gun to defend himself or his family. But, I mentioned that story to illustrate that someone invading or breaking into your home may not just want to steal things. Or maybe they steal things, and then see you have a young daughter at home as well. The other PP said earlier that why bother killing or hurting someone who just wants to steal something?

My point is, if you enter my home without permission with ill-intentions, you will see the business end of my Glock.

If you shoot and kill someone in VA, you will be spending the night or two in jail as the authorities figure out what is going on.

There are mitigating factors. Whether the person crossed your threshold is a huge one. Time of day is another.

If you shoot someone on the corner of your yard in broad daylight and there is nothing else going on, you're doing time for second degree murder. If someone crosses your threshold, it is 3am, and that person starts scooping stuff into his bag marked with a dollar sign, you are way less likely to be doing time and will get privately thanked.

Let's face it -- America is "blessed" with more losers per capita than European countries IMHO. This is why our murder rate is so high and why our prison incarceration rates are so high (our reaction to marijuana is not helping in the latter regard either.)
