If you shoot and kill someone in VA, you will be spending the night or two in jail as the authorities figure out what is going on.

There are mitigating factors. Whether the person crossed your threshold is a huge one. Time of day is another.

If you shoot someone on the corner of your yard in broad daylight and there is nothing else going on, you're doing time for second degree murder. If someone crosses your threshold, it is 3am, and that person starts scooping stuff into his bag marked with a dollar sign, you are way less likely to be doing time and will get privately thanked.

Let's face it -- America is "blessed" with more losers per capita than European countries IMHO. This is why our murder rate is so high and why our prison incarceration rates are so high (our reaction to marijuana is not helping in the latter regard either.) [/quote]
