this is true. some people do not enjoy cooking and find it stressful. and there is nothing wrong with that. in fact, kudos to the OP for not forcing herself to cook when she knows she can't/doesn't want to. |

We have quite the connoisseurs of fast food posting here! I would not go to someone's house for T'giving that was serving fast food from Chicken Out. I don't eat that garbage any day of the year, let alone a holiday.

| Hey, I can brine a turkey and cook the sides just as well as Barefoot Contessa. But I find nothing wrong with Chicken Out (or god forbid Boston Market). I am tempted every year to buy the meal - it sounds like so much less work. I would have no problem going to a friend's or relative's house for Chicken Out. The important part of Thanskgiving is being with people you love. Believe me, when my sister wanted to host her first Thanksgiving dinner, I helped her make green bean casserole straight from the 60's recipe that she'd found (ugh) - it was good, kinda, but the important part is that she was proud of herself for being the hostess, and we had a great time. I did try and give her some cooking tips afterwards though haha. |
sorry not all of us can go out to the backyard and kill the turkey we've been fattening for the season. what? you don't do that? you buy your turkey from a STORE? god, now THAT's garbage... do you know what they do to those birds?? whew... |
We go out. That works for our family and everyone looks forward to it. Insert shocked judgemental looks of horror here
Seriously, who cares what you eat? Thanksgiving is about being thankful for what you have and being with your friends and family. If you want to spend 3 days cooking a gourmet meal to have a wonderful day with your family then that's great for you. That doesn't work for many families. Everybody should do what works for them. OP did not invite you to her house so it's really irrelevant whether you would go or not. She asked for opinions on takeout which is what will make her day with her f&f special. OP from the helpful responses on this thread, it sounds like Chicken Out would be a reasonable bet. If you are nervous, I would see if there is any way you can taste some of the dishes before. |
| I've done it. Everyone loved it. |
| Can someone please clarify why a catered turkey, mashed potato, sweet potato, green beans dinner from Chicken Out is "fast food garbage" but not if I get the same thing from say, Whole Foods or Balducci's? Is it just the assumption that better ingredients are used at the more expensive places? |
Close enough, I order mine from a local farmer who raises it in his backyard. |
Well thank goodness. Because of course we all know that the entire point of Thanksgiving is not family, friends, or the giving of thanks - it's the kind of turkey you purchase and prepare. Oh, and the sides. I mean, who the heck cares about anything else?! |
I hope your wife had a chance to scrub the pots too. I mean, really, what's the big deal. She can push the baby out while the pots are soaking in some sudsy water. Stick a turkey in the over. Push a baby out. Soak pots and scrub. Sounds like a plan. |
That is right. It may not be easy - it may not even always be hygenic - but it is possible. |
| LOL |
Serving your guests foods full of partially hydrogenated oils and tons of salt-sounds wonderful. No Thanksgiving has nothing to do with the food, nothing at all. No wonder this country is so full of tacky chain restaurants such as Red Robin, Chilis, T.G.I. Fridays, and Applebees, the American palate is so sophisticated. |
oh get off your high horse. just because people don't have the time or land to raise and kill their own farm animals and eat them doesn't mean they are all eating "garbage" and have unsophisticated palates. you're being extremely extreme. |
What are you babbling about? The poster says she purchases it from a local farm, not that she owns a local farm. These things can be ordered at farmers markets all over DC and picked up right before Thanksgiving. Yes, someone who thinks Chicken Out is a good Thanksgiving dinner (or really any time of the year) has a very unsophisticated palate. There's nothing wrong with that, but I'm sure these people are the same posters who said earlier that Dunkin Doughnuts has good bagels. Not everybody has good taste and serving Chicken Out to guests is in poor taste. A book I recommend to all of the fast foodies, it might help with hosting your party: http://www.amazon.com/White-Trash-Etiquette-Definitive-Upscale/dp/0767922077/ref=pd_sim_b_6 |
