What would you do? Five year old dd says that she does not want kids.

Me too! And I couldn't understand how they actually did it again to give me a little brother - I thought they got a bum deal! And the funny thing is, not only did I do "that" many times, I even did IVF (lots of shots - another thing as a kid I never would have chosen). Kids change their minds!

If it really bugs you, I think I'd just point out, the next time you and DD are having a blast, "See, this is exactly why I had kids - you are so fun to be around!"

I wonder if your DD is worried that *she* is troublesome, caused you pain, etc. For that reason, I would respond something like, "OK, you can do whatever you want! I sure love having YOU, though." A bit of reassurance, while not making a huge deal of it.

She is 5, I wouldn't worry about it.

Good point.

On a less noble note, my 4.5-y-o thinks she's a chihuahua right now. Fine by me-- she's housebroken.

LOL!!!!! My son thought he was a dog for about two weeks when he was 3. You would say hi and he barked. I figured I would go with the flow and not say anything unless he decided he wanted to pee on a tree. Kids go through strange stages (well strange to us) if it isn't affecting their wellbeing then just let it be.

Just had to share that my 8-year-old goddaughter doesn't want to have kids because you have to go to the hospital "and get a shot." If she only knew that shots are the least of it!

OP, I think you've gotten the gist of this--she's 5, it will pass, and if it doesn't, it's her choice, so don't worry about it.
