Stokes- the last hurrah

I don't know. I applied early enough, I think. My question is completely a hypothetical. If, after all things are factored in- sibs, etc..., will a single digit WL get me a Pre-k 4 slot? I know it's not guaranteed. I also don't think sibs will matter much 'cause most kids get/need the preference for Pre-k 3. Not Pre-k 4. Thoughts anyone?

I'm 12:12 again, I think if you have a low #-- you have a good shot. With these things you can't count your chickens before they hatch, but I'd say you have a shot.

Good Luck!

Good shot- I'll take it! I know it's a long good shot, but better than nothing! Just want thing whole thing behind me. I'm a good private right now, but it's killing us. If Stokes doesn't work out we will stay put for another year. I will need sell my car and change my baby's daycare, but my DC's education is worth it. There is nothing more important. That's why we're all spazzing on here. Sure the hell hope this situation changes and soon!

Not true-having a sibling does matter for PreK4. In fact, this year I know of a few children who are 1st year students at Stokes in the PreK4 class (who did not have a single digit WL#) with sibling preference who came off of the waitlist. At least _ were on the sibling waitlist and at least _ were on the regular waitlist. Some got off of the waitlist once their sibling (in upper grades) got off of the waitlist. This meant that the PreK4 children jump ahead of those kids on the list without a sibling.

Remember--- at Stokes, PK 4 and PS 3 are in the same class room, so even though most sibs want PS-3 spots, that takes a spot from the over all pool of PK4 and PS3.

Um- not true! Most kids get a preference for Pre-k. Their older sib is in school and once they're eligible, they start at Pre-k. So, by the time they're in Pre-k 4, they've already gained admission through preference in Pre-k 3. Now some parents who chose to sit out Pre-k 3 can use the pref for four. And if multiple sibs are applying, admission to an upper grade for a sib, would get a newbie Pre-k 4er priority. These circumstances are so unlikely to happen or have such a small chance of happening, that someone with a single digit WL number stands a good chance and its safe to say sibs don't matter all that much. Stokes parent in that situation here.

Um, not true. A new student was accepted off of one of the upper grade wait list. Once that upper grade student got in, that students younger sibling came off of the PreK4 waitlist. This happened this year at Stokes with at least 2 families.

Correction...PreK waitlist as they do not distinguish 3/4 on their waitlist. It just so happended that the child was and older 4 year old when starting Stokes, which mean the child will be in K next year.

Sorry, I'm a current stokes parent and this doesn't make sense to me. Can you explain it a bit? My understanding is that there is one pool of spots for both PS3 and PK4-- they share a classroom.

PreK is a combine pool of spots for PreK3/4. Yes, they do share a classroom because stokes does not distinguish between Prek3 PreK4. Kids either stay one year or two years in PreK-depends on age and cut off date.

Signed,
Current Parent of a PreK student at Stokes.

If you're a Stokes parent already, why would you give a darn. You should be explaining to us...

I know that both are housed together, but with Pre-k 4ers going to K the following year, is that differentiated from the Pre-k 3ers? Just trying to guage if there all lumped into one group or will my pre-k 4er only be competing with kids that need pre-k 4 slot. I know it's a long shot either way.

Stokes does not distinguish. You either stay in PreK 1 year or 2 based upon your age. They do not go down the list to try and balance the 3 and 4 year olds.

Your PreK will compete with everyone who applied for a PreK spot-regardless of age.
