Zillow - Make Me Move to the rescue

OP here - our transaction closed at the end of May. it went very smoothly. I highly suggest using MMM.

Why are you paying him/her anything? What exactly are they doing for you if they didnt find you the house you are buying? RE agents are the biggest scams out there. Their entire job consists of finding qualified buyers for your home, that's it. Everything else requires a lawyer (and no, they cannot write contracts for you, they need a lawyer to do that.)

This is so interesting....never really paid attention to the make me move thing. Just took a quick peek at our street and realized that the house we are currently renting is marked as Make Me Move. Does this mean my landlady is interested in selling? We have periodically considered approaching her about this but were hesitant because thought it might give the impression that we were looking to move out in the near future. Did she designate it as Make Me Move or was that Zillow doing that?

It was almost certainly your landlady. Go ahead and ask her. She will have the impression that you want *her* house, not that you want to move in general.

I just don't see how realtors are very helpful in the market we have right now. We can all search online for the limited number of listings out there. I know realtors will say they are helping you negotiate but I have bought a few homes and rarely do they give a lot of help figuring out what the place is really worth. They usually just go back and forth for you and lessen the awkwardness of talking to the person on the other side. Their fees (especially here where housing prices are so high) are unjustified right now.

I agree that a lawyer is then necessary but I feel more comfortable with a lawyer than a real estate agent any day.

I think we would all be so much more successful if we just listed the homes at a reasonable price and the buyer lowered the price by most of the agent's fees. They'd sell the home quickly and could still add a few thousand to cover the lawyer's fees.

Still - that would mean you could accept at least 4% less (assuming you would have had 2 agents in a traditional deal) and sell the house quickly and easily.

Resurrecting this post. I have more of a logistics question. We purchased our home two years ago and the BEAUTIFUL interior pictures from the initial listing are still up on Redfin. Is there anything unethical about linking to the redfin site in our schpiel about our house? With a note that the pictures are the staging pictures from before - we have painted, but that's about it. Any sort of copyrighting issue with the photos if we're just linking to Redfin?

We are experienced homebuyers.

I love this idea and if we move again, would definitely try MMM. I hate the idea of realtors getting such a high percentage for opening the door and not much else. A lawyer could definitely do everything for a fraction of the price, and more expertise, no contest.

I especially like this idea if you are the type of home that receives many letters, as we have been. The place practically sells itself. Who needs realtors?

I think in most places, people are in touch with actual comps, not dream comps. If it is an old house, you are not going to get new house money. As long as you realize that, you will be fine.

1) This is dishonest because your house no longer looks this way.
2) Yes, the pictures are copyrighted, not by Redfin but by MRIS.

NP. I disagree.
1. not dishonest especially if you add a note explaining the link. Even if you don't, any buyer will actually see the house so will know what she is getting.
2. I'm no copyright lawyer, but I cannot believe linking to someone else's photos they make available on the web is a copyright violation. That would make no sense at all. Maybe if you take the photos and post them as your own, that would be a potential problem, but not linking to the copyright holder's own website.

We're listing our condo soon and have not yet hired an agent. If we try MMM and it doesn't work, will those days on zillow show up on days on market or otherwise negatively impact the "new listing"?
