We have been searching for a home for a while, very discouraged by how quickly things are going under contract...appraisal contingencies being stricken from offers etc.
So on Sunday night, I got on Zillow - found around 10 Make Me Move properties, knowing it was a total long shot. Guess what? Got 2 calls back yesterday. One house we really love, the other - eh. Anyhow, contract being written today. I know there was a discussion about Make Me Mover recently, just wanted to add my experience. |
| Wow, congrats. |
| wow, which neighborhood? i've been debating trying this route. are you offering their mmm price? |
| I was the PP who put my house on Zillow Make Me Move and was contacted by an interested buyer. They came to look at the house but determined it wasn't the right house for them and are going to keep looking. I've also contacted several Make Me Move houses but have not received an email back from anyone. |
| Can someone explain how this works? Does Zillow go door to door and solicit potential sellers? Does such a deal go through real estate agents or is it effectively a for sale by owner (and possibly buyer with no agent) situation? |
| Anyone can go on zillow, "claim" their house, and set a make me move price. It'd be up to both parties as to whether they wanted to go through an agent or not. |
You go to zillow.com Claim your house Then you can update your home facts to adjust the zestimate You can then voluntarily input a make me move price |
| OP -- are either of you using an agent? Logistically, how do private transactions like this work? |
|
OP here. Using an agent but his commish will be half the normal amt since I found the home and solicited to buyer myself. He's totally fine with that since he saved himself a TON of headaches in the search process. The seller has an agent/ friend helping with the transaction and his commish is also less.
House is inside beltway/moco. 3 beds/3bath I was honestly shocked to get one response much less two! I think sellers are eager to sell without the hassle of listing too. It's a win-win. |

I know a family who's selling their home via MMM, too! They put up an extended description of the home on Zillow, and very clearly stated that they are planning to move, put the house on the market (using an agent) in the summer. But early offers and early-move outs accepted!
Yes, people can be serious. And if you're a seller who's serious, a simple "MMM" status change isn't going to cut it. Actually put some effort into it and clearly state your intent. It works! |
| Wow - I'm amazed this worked! That's awesome. There's one person in my neighborhood with a MMM price - it's ridiculous! I'm pleased to hear some people are in better touch with the values of their homes. |
| I'm serious about my MMM in 20910. |
| 20910: what are you asking? So I can search it. |
| 20910 here: $525k |
| Great thread. You just inspired me to put my own NWDC house up on MMM. We had planned to sell within a year or two, but the right price and an easy sale could make it happen much faster. We need to take some photos, but it will be up within a few days. |
