STFU and stop ruining the thread. This is to HELP parents anxious to figure things out. You aren't adding anything to the discussion. Your point is taken. Now move on.

Hot is in the eye of the beholder.

We will give up our HOT seat at Murch preK if DS gets into YuYing. Which we will likely get into.

How do you know you're likely to get into YY?

She stood in line and has a time stamp practically guaranteeing entry - since YY admits waitlist based on time of application submission.

Is there an actual line for YY and Stokes? I thought they only took online apps.

PP only YY had a physical line this year; Stokes was online only (and their website crashed for awhile if I'm not mistaken).

PP before that, the reason I'm interested in your confidence on getting a spot is I was on line too, have an 8:01 timestamp, but I know there were some people in front of me AND I know some online applicants got 8:01 timestamps, so between not knowing how the waitlist actually fell out and not knowing how many siblings will be put at the top of the waitlist after the lottery and how much they'll move... PLUS the confirmation of DCI affecting possibly how many will take their YY spot if it gets offered... those are all the reasons I'm interested in that confidence. Because I am in your boat too and I don't feel so confident at all.

Well, because I am native Chinese and my child is 1/2 Chinese. I feel like our odds at getting off the waitlist are good.

YY does not give preference for native Chinese speakers or 1/2 Chinese kids. Sorry

That is such an obnoxious thing to post with no context. If you're going to be critical of others' choices or make it seem like they are crazy for calling this a "hot" school, at least state your reasons for including these examples in your list of "Not hot in my opinion".

But to answer your question, depending on how you define hot (i.e., hot = more demand for slots than supply of slots, vs. what how you may define it "hot = vast majority white/high SES"), yes, those schools are hot.

I think this is the same person that bashes any EOP school on general principle. In their narrow little world, everyone should move WOP to overcrowded schools with kids in trailers or chase the charters all over the city. I think they own a local gas station and are trying to drum up business.

Whether or not its on general principles or for particular reasons, there is more than one person who bashes EOP schools. Some even live EOP.

Wow - Congratulations!

I started the thread about Horace Mann. We have a preK spot but are 90% certain to be moving overseas this summer. There's quite an international student body at Mann so there will probably be 2-3 others in the same boat. I wouldn't be giving it up for any other reason -it's a great school.

Here we go again...they do give it, but only for Mandarin-speaking kids on the waitlist, and you can quote me on that. Don't bother, Chinese dad, if your IB school is any good; you won't like YY if you're Chinese enough to speak a dialect at home. Check the last dozen YY threads if you have any questions.

Thanks for saying we can quote you. Oops, one thing though, you didn't say your full name, so we can tell YY enrollment and DCPCS who the authority was on this. Name please, which is the only way to truly quote someone?

Meanwhile, until this PP gives their name so we can quote them, I'm totally fine with people thinking this is true. I just feel bad for the parents of bilingual Chinese kids who believe it and think they'll jump ahead on the waitlist for YY. Rude awakening awaits...

There's more to it than my simply being Chinese. There are relationships.

I'm not 'you can quote me' PP. I'm the one who will give up the seat at Murch.

I'm not saying all YY parents are like this. I know at least 2 sets of parents who are lovely.

But all you YY snobs & wannabes so deserve each other. Barf.

Ok first of all I'm cracking up that yet another thread tbat started out as a general one has devolved yet again into a YY thread! It's almost like gravity, it's so effortless the way it happens!

2nd, at this point I really believe that Mr./Ms. "my kid speaks Chonese and I have relationships" is an anti-YY troll. Even if YY possobly does skirt tbe lottery/waitlist process for some people (which I do NOT believe they do), what truly "connected" person in their right mind is going to come to this gossip factory BEFORE the lottery even occurs and say "I'm so connected, we're definitely gettong in"??? That would be dumb at best, jeapordize your precious illegally-obtained spot at worst.

I call trpll because it sounds like it's written just to furtjer annoy current and prospective YY parents.

The rest of our society can only hope that Yu Ying will make up for the dearth of character you will pass on to your DS. It's more of a factor in success than you obviously believe.

Good luck.
