149, 99 percentile.
Does this mean she will be in pool for AAP or does she need to do really well on the CoAGT (whatever the 2nd grade test is) as well? Also, what does "in pool" mean? If this score puts her "in pool" what other screening is done to determine if she actually gets in AAP or not?

Yes, she'll be in the pool next year regardless of how she does on the CoGAT. A 149 is extremely high and well past the traditional cut score in the low 130's. The second grade teachers and Advanced Academic teacher will meet to review her class work and rate her using something called a "Gifted Behaviors Rating Scale." They will complete a packet that is turned into the Advanced Academic office who then makes the decision about who to accept into the program. As a parent, you can submit a questionnaire to go along with that packet.

I don't get this. Why do kids need to take Cogat if they will be in pool whatever?

This is very interesting. Previously, both the NNAT and the CogAT were given in the 2nd grade and thus it makes sense for the 2nd grade teacher and AART teacher to meet and discuss the child.

Now, the child takes the NNAT during the 1st grade, but the 1st grade teacher has no input into determining the GBRS...whether he/she is still at the school during the child's 2nd grade or not.

I guess it varies by school. At my child's school, the k and 1st grade teachers were also asked for input.

Just bc a child is in a pool it doesn't mean that he/she will be eligible for AAP. The committee will observe NNAT, CogAt, GBRS, and samples.

NO. The NNAT is just one of the many things that the committee will look into.

With 158 she will be in AAP for sure.

That's great! I'm the recent 149/99perc poster. My DD missed 2 out of 48 questions. What is the highest score they can get with a 48/48 correct?

pp here - thank you for the explanation. This year her teacher is more concerned with her behavior (either not focusing on work and talking instead or focusing too much on an assignment and not wanting to stop doing it). I'm not sure that an assessment by her 1st grade teacher would be very positive, but I guess we'll have to see what happens next year.

Has your child had a similar score or know someone (your answer was very absolute)? Just asking since I'd like to be prepared on what potential options DD would have (level IV or center) and I also have a younger child that will soon be in ES. I guess I'd rather research now than just not be prepared on what this means/to do since DD is our eldest (newbies). DD had all 5s in K and now all 4s in 1st grade except 3s for music, art- Chinese has been 4s.

DD missed one (47 out of 48) so she got a 158, max is 160 (48 out of 48). Congrats too!
